Phewww, Just returned from from my 1.5 mile nightly hump through the hood....well didn't go last night due to heavy downpour & Tstorms....so I wore my 2nd line gear minus the primary defensive mechanism and associated parts to make up for last night....not a good idea to tack on 25 lbs xtra at one time....too much wear and tear on the old bone....and the energy stores quickly dissipate....add 2-3, no more than 5 lbs per week.....which brings me to the whole point of this post. During my first visits to the forum I read lots of posts on BOBs in the BOVs headin to the BOLs.....in line with recent discussions I personally have no intent to immediately abandon my abode....however I realize that unless by some miracle the entire neighbor / community pulls there heads from....the sand.... and works together to sustain one another, an individual defensive posture is not sustainable. Now thanks to UD runnin Rancher off  I don't know whether this make me a group 1, 2, or three....I will have to be mobile....highly mobile, as will many if not all of you....you just don't realize it yet:(Lets hope I'm very wrong. In case I'm right, I will urge you to begin using your gear, using your resources of last resort. I've been carrying my ruck around now for about two months....gone from 45lbs & 1mile to 60 lbs & 2.5 miles to 75 lbs and 1.5 mile.... a little short on the mileage.... I learned some things about myself and my gear. I removed the frame from my rucksack do to its seemingly unwieldiness and the added weight....tonight I'm putting it back in....without the frame the packs weight rests on your spine.....not good....not at all comfortable....or healthy. I had to get it to 75 lbs to discover this....with the frame....the weight is distributed between my shoulders and my hips....its a little awkward mounting this thing but this will pass. There will be those who toss their BOBs in their BOVs and rush off to their BOLs only to find themselves along with the multitudes in the BOPL (Bug Out Parking Lot, aka interstate....) you my friends being who you are will know what has to be done... while the multitudes remain in their BOVs, in the BOPL, listening intently to their radios awaiting further instruction...you will take up your BOBs and start humpin your way to survival....if you haven't been practicing humpin that BOB, your not going to get very far....and we don't want to give Rancher any opportunity to be able to say....to himself anyway....I told you so. Aint that right Oz....UD?

Thx, O.W. I've been thinking about how we can move our food to one of our BOLs so we can move if we have to. And yes, if TSHTF, we'll probably have to.

Since I would hate to be stranded in a BOPL, we made other choices. I am not fit, mostly due to health (emphazema and asthma) as well as being a wee bit over weight. I knew that BO wasn't an option for us. Yes, I could hide in the woods etc., but long marches with a heavy pack are not an option. So, we rearranged our location so we are the BOL. We chose well, we hope.

Yep, Oscar, I agree. Before surgery, I was doing as you are, hiking with gear, working out to stay fit and changed eating habits. Now to quit smoking...

Anyway, hopefully within the next month (praying nothing happens before) "I" should be able to continue with the rest of the family. I get stronger every day, so that is a plus. :)

Ten miles can seem pretty equal to 100 miles in a really bad situation. We hope to make our stand here with our friends/family/neighbors, however that may not be feasible and we will have to make a fast assessment of that fact.

          ROTFLMAO!
O.W. I didn't run the perp off. LOL
I commend you on all the packin' of the rucksack. I've been humping mine now for a month and I gotta tell you it aint no fun! Now I love hikin' but slinging a 50 pound pack for 4 miles a night or more is just annoying.
I will not be jumping in my veichle to get to my BOL. I'll have to hump it. So, I don't think we'll have to worry about the "R" saying s...t..........
I think most of us are pretty ready if we have to BO!!!!!

and to add, if you don't know which fr..in group you are in then I suggest you do some real soul searching!!!!!!!! I think you know exactly where you stand. and you don't need no Rancher to tell you.

[I am not fit, mostly due to health (emphysema and asthma) as well as being a wee bit over weight.]

Hp....feel free to say "O.W......enough already" my feelings won't be hurt:(. With some self induced pain and suffering you can be....I know little or nothing with regards to respiratory ailments....I do know that with diet, exercise, reflexology, accupressure most if not all of our ailments can be subdued.

When the time comes that little heart of your is gonna just be pumpin away due to shear excitement and your brain is going to yell at those lungs " breeeathe....deeper, faster,....moooore oxygen. This will happen whether your walking, running, cause your brain told....one of those other orgains....I forget which one....to dump a bunch of adrenalin into your blood just to make you perky. Taking a walk every day and adding a little more strain will help reduce you issues.

To make this a little longer: rolleyes: My life has been such that I've experienced a number of physically violent events which my then youth permitted an excellent recovery....well....as I've gotten older I have been reminded of these long forgotten events through frequent episodes of pop snap and crackle accompanied by almost crippling pain...at first I chose to ignore it...that didn't work. Pain meds tempered things a bit and then I decided to attempt a return to my most excellent condition of age 35....thats not gonna happen but I no longer have the pain and I'm in better shape now than in the past two decades.....Get with it toots:D Oh and the reflexology and acupressure / acupuncture works.

The adrenal glands, which set above and behind your kidneys are the little organs that respond to this call by the brain :), dumping adrenaline into the system to prepare for "fight or flight". The brain supposedly determines which it will be :D.

But, but, but...OW, if my little heart pumps to hard, I'd have a heart attack!!(also have high BP)
Seriously, I know that I need to get in better shape! :p Right now I'm in a stress situation and I'm stuck up here alone and I'm not a real good self motivator. Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) I'll get off my not so tiny bum.

Thanks S O'sW....biology....sooo long ago....and I was gawking  at the cutie pie in the next row instead of paying attention....

Hp, it'll just feel like one....we'll get through this.

[Right now I'm in a stress situation]

Stress is an odd and deadly thing....and is THE NUMBER ONE killer of you women .....once your out there perspiring, in pain, struggling for air and crying out " O.W. if I ever get my hands on you....you#[email protected]%^%.... you'll have forgotten what it was that stressed you out to begin with. Stress is exhausting....you know that....Once you've recovered from the physical activity you'll tell yourself "self....that wasn't so bad"....then go at it again...it'll get easier....before too long....the stress inducer won't matter or at least won't be the inducer....and you won't be flustered with O.W.s meddling anymore :D

[I'm stuck up here alone and I'm not a real good self motivator]

What does "up here" look like? Have you explored "up here" ? You might need a fallback position, is there a good location for one out behind the house there? How far is the mailbox from the house? Tomorrow HP....tomorrow;)

                    Add in the unknowns

Add in the unknown factors, tactical movement, 20-30 feet at a pop. Stop, look and listen, then proceed. Seeing as you probably are wanting not to be seen or heard. Also the probablity of a very hostile enviroment, ie. gunfire/fire fights. The task of making 1 to 2 miles in a short amount of time may become a very slow and drawn out process. Making route changes to avoid any unwanted contact will make things more difficult. In survival school we were told to make slow and dileberate movements to maintain stealth. Just don't plan on tearing ass through the sticks.

you mean it wont be like the song; They ran through the briar and they ran through the bramble. they ran through places a rabbit couldnt go, they ran so fast the hounds couldnt catch em, from the gulf of Mississippi to the border of Mexico!
