  • Law enforcement in NC

I was hoping to get some advise from some Law enforcement in NC on passing the enrollment test. I am signed up to go to Charlotte the 27th of June to see if I can qualify for training.
I always been interested in LE, Military, ect, but have always come up short physically since I have been asthmatic from birth, but have been running at freedom park in Morganton on my way home from Marion to get pass this hurdle.
But is there any books that are good for test prep on the written part? that are worth their weight?
    any help is appreciated.

Hmmmm, this is the second time I've tried to reply to this post. The first one didn't post. Probably something I did. Anyway, I have seen test prep books in the book stores but have never checked one out. I will tell you this; The department putting you through school and the school it's self don't want you to faill. Near the end of the course they will quiz you to death. Put forth a decent effort and you will do fine. As far as the POPAT goes, I recommend lots of push-ups and sit-up as well as a lot of sprints. Make sure you know how to do a correct push-up and the correct rest position. I did it at the age of 47 after recovering from three broken ribs. It's not an easy task, but you can do it. Good luck.

      I like your attitude !

Im 50 years old always wanted to be a cop but took the good money instead. Chase your dreams . I dont pretend to be a genius but I can tell you where I made my mistakes. Stay away from bad people stay in shape and improve your education. If you dont get into law enforcement right away look at jobs that keep you near cops . The second best way to get a job is to know somebody if you are a hard worker and people like you ,even though you might not be the smartest guy in the room you still might be the best candidate. good luck this country needs more good public servents.

        Thank you.
I am entering BLET in Sept as long as I can keep working enough to pay some bills, which is a fight right now.
Because I am doing it at night so I can work during the day, it will be April before I graduate, But I dont see any other way.
All of my background check come back clean as I have a CCW in NC.

The instructor told me it will be a long battle since I work construction, comiing into class allready tired, then having to be there from 5-930, and do that M-Thursday, Saturday all day, then back at it again Monday.

If I keep the end game in sight (better future for me family) I will do it and live thru it.

Thanks for the encouraging words too

First off, Pain is weakness leaving the body. Your body and your mind will get used to the four hours of sleep thing and your body/mind will become accustomed to the long hours and then the concentration and memorization of important/ life-saving technical data. Your body and mind can take more than most people can dish out to themselves. It is a long standing principal in military training that if you take away the norm and then completely breakdown an individuals mental state and then rebuild it and return it to the "norm" or the newly reformed one then the individual will accertain that sleep is secondary to mission accomplishment(I.E.-BLET/family life improvement) and troop welfare is last(meaning you sacrifice all for the mission-your family). In a nutshell you CAN tolerate more than you think, physically and mentally. I have faith that you can do it IF you want it bad enough. I personally work nights and go to school during the day, and have very little time with my family, but my wife knows the endstate of it and the benefit it will bring our young family. My children suffer the most from not getting enough daddy-time. You have to make the choice of whats most important to the survival of your family.
