  • Need a good shepherd

Anyone know a good breeder for German Shepherds?
I had an American Shepherd, which is larger than the standard Euoropean( I think I have that right, American is larger than European). Sparkie the best dog I've ever had. Very protective of me, almost moreso than the kids. He'd hump my son though, stupid dog. He developed a taste for fighting cocks from the neighbor about a half a mile away, and died of lead poisoning. I think they are beautiful dogs. Anybody having puppies??

Excellent choice in dogs. I too prefer the German Born Shepherds.

I wouldn't deal with Elaina Cullenton in Ellenboro NC as she is way to expensive. But her stock is excellent. I got way lucky and purchased an offspring of hers crossed with a NY State K9. My big boy has been protection trained and is 'spooky smart'. Someone else footed the bill, and I got the dog :)

There is a trainer in that trains for the Police and iirc their website is www.k9command.com Great folks :)

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

I love shepherds...just don't seem to have any luck with them. My first one climbed a 5' fence and got hit by a car...second one got hip displasia and recently died.
Doing the boxer thing now....and he never leaves my side. The perfect size, not too big to carry around in the truck, but big enough. He sheds like crazy but it matches the interior of my truck :)

I used to know a guy in Sand Hills that trained police dogs, he was German or Austrain himself. I cant remember his name for the life of me. I'd really like to have some training with the dog. There is no animal more handsome than a good shepherd on point.

One of my customers who is like family is very involved in search in rescue as they are a L.E.F Law Enforcement Family:) and they primarily use germans and swear by them. One of the people in there group are getting ready to have pups and they predict they will be some good dogs. I am a ways away in california if this is an option. I my self like dobermans, here is my 6 month old female pup Bella, I have her jumping through the air its good fun

I got particuarlly lucky finding my GSD, I was acutally going around to local shelters looking for one, and found Gretchen. She was about 1.5 y/o and around 45 lbs, when I first got her and in the last 2 years she is now at a beefy 95 lbs and is the best GSD I've ever owned.

For training I went through Jim Hamiltion of Palmetto Canine Training http://www.palmettocaninetraining.com/ he is an retired army vet, who now runs this Kennel and a long with it also he does a lot of training for the SC state police K-9 force. He is a very friendly and informative man who takes his job very seriously, and after sending 2 dogs through his course I can tell you it's the best money I've ever spent on a dog.

Awesome looking GSD KY_Longrifle. I've been thinking about getting another GSD to keep my other two critters company.

Thanks a lot, we've been milling around the idea of taking her through more protection training, with the way crime is getting here in the Lowcountry. With her and our standard poodle being 2 solid protection dogs, it is quite the deterrent and adds a lot piece of mind to everyone.
