  • Perimeter Defense

This could sound strange, but I'm betting some of you agree and have thought/planned for this.
OK, TSHTF. My wife and I are alone defending our home. Gangs of bad guys looting and attacking.
We can both shoot, have plenty of weapons and ammo. But let's say a large gang (several dozen) attacked the house all at the same time, some from the front and some from the back. Hard to get them all before some break in.
What about perimeter defense? Booby traps, etc.
Sure, they aren't legal for general home security, but when TSHTF I'm not worried about that. They could be set up as needed when the situation starts getting bad enough, not today. (Although I'm tempted.)
Punji pits are easy, although the digging takes some time and effort.
Land mines are a little more difficult to obtain.
Anyone have any plans in this regard?

Hi Rossa and welcome to the forum. You present a difficult scenario and you are thinking the way you should be in playing "what if" examining different scenarios. However we cannot talk about things such as boobytraps and mines, etc. I know that you do not mean any harm but we have to be very careful here. I have an article in contingency planning titled "A Tidbit" that you may want to read in reference to peremeter alarms and general defense. I belive that if the scenario you are talking about occurs then it's time to stick your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye. Hopefully you will have enough intel about roving zombies bands to bug out before they get there

Yeah, my bad about opening the door to possibly illegal stuff.
        Food for thought, though.

Roving bands of nerdowells are usually opportunists looking for easy targets.

If you show that you are willing to fight it out and return fire and their blood starts spilling, chances are the group could break up pretty quick and look for easier targets.

There is always a chance however, if you injured or killed one of their friends,
they could come back later for revenge.

          Peace

I have thought about perimeter devices that alert you to their presence. Driveway alarms can be positioned out in the woods too. One of the best perimeter (and beyond) defense system I know come in many different names....a few of which are:

Rosco, Killer, Spot, Bronco, Duke, Bart, Rocky, Brandy, Chip, Bart, & Marley

If the S has HTF, my plan for perimeter defense includes trip wires that activate a light and/or audible alarms.
The thinking is that if a trespasser "trips a wire" he will realize that my place is a hard target and will look elsewhere for opportunity.

There is always homemade napalm and it isn't illegal unless you set it off.

I have a project coming up that would help me defend the weak side of our home. Mainly seen, or unseen items that would direct the would-be's to take a route that I expect. Hopefully without them knowing that I'm leading them in the way I want them to come. I have a compact tractor and back hoe...so I can easily and quickly dig "fox holes" for my use (behind shrubs and other natural obstacles), and I have gathered a few large spools of braided fishing line for trip lines (to actually "trip" the oncomers). I'm trying to create barriers that do not provide cover.

An electric fence will keep your cows from roaming or tearing down barbed wire...Tractor supply had 10 mile solar fencers for 59.99 around Christmas.

For those who want a natural legal unpassable perimeter try a locust tree. Beware, they grow and multiply like crazy.

Rest assured you will hear the screams of agony well in advance of contact with trespassers. :D
