  • Add Dental Floss to the BOB

Whilst cleaning the fruitcake from my teeth today, I got the idea to add a roll of Dental Floss to the Bug-Out-Bag and first aid kit.

It may not be to you, maybe you already have some in your emergency, first aid, BOB, etc, kit, but I just came up with the idea of how strong and versatile this stuff can be.
Off my head, I can see it being used as fishing line, lashing, sewing line, thread thru eyeglass frame if a screw gets lost, replace shoe laces, and used to assist in many other household tasks.

If you are out in the wilds and get lost, the floss may come in handy for its intended purpose, eating all those wild berries, bark, pine cones, etc, some is bound to get caught between your chompers.

For the amount of space a container takes up, it may be worth it's keep.

    Keep Flossing, :D

Good tip. That is one item I always carry. Another great use for dental floss that I learned when I was a bachelor, is that dental floss and a sewing needle will fix a button, zipper, or a torn shirt, and it is almost unbreakable. I highly recommend it. Great advice Bro!!

Agreed, I keep a long spool of the multi strand unwaxed stuff in my bob... mainly for its intended purpose, but like you mentioned, I has plenty of others uses as well :)

      Good suggestion

beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Never set one, but ya think floss will work for a snare? Just curious? Any posts on here about small game snares?
JUST CURIOUS? PRUNES ARE DEHYDRATED PLUMS. SO WHERE DOES PRUNE JUICE COME FROM?

Dental floss works great as a noose for reptiles. Attach to a pole and sneak up on them while they are basking on a rock. Lunch! Anything furry will chew thru it. Ive put away several dozen snares, from rabbit size to hog size. All made from stainless wire and aircraft cable. As long as you are willing to eat raccoon, skunk or opossum, a trapper will never go hungry.

Man, I never thought of floss as a snare tool....just goes to show even more that I need to bone up on my trapping/snaring skillset.:(

Maybe someone in the know can start a thread about making and setting snares?

Floss was one of the first things in my BOB. I had a friend a while ago that was in a nasty fight at a party and was cut. He was drunk and didn't want to go to the hospital. The only thing he could find was dental floss to stitch his self with. He actually used floss and it turned out great. He went to the doctor the next day and was congratulated for his fine workmanship. I'm assuming, being a medical type supply its going to be sterile.
