I just bought one. I need help. I keep buying stuff. If I ever have to bug out I will need a friggin semi to get all of my stuff into the desert.



The Freeplay Companion windup radio is small enough to fit in your pocket when you go for a hike, and it's got the right balance of features to keep it going when you reach camp. Out in the field, you can power it through the high-performance solar panel or wind it up to keep it running deep into the night. You can even use the Companion to charge a cell phone. Back at home, you can also recharge the internal NiMH battery through its mini-USB port (cable not included).

The Companion picks up AM and FM, so you'll always have access to information and entertainment, and it has a 3-LED flashlight mounted on the front end. No batteries or wall outlet required. 1 minute of winding gives you 20 minutes of radio and 30 minutes of shine time. 1 hour of sunlight produces 1 hour of radio and 1.5 hours of light. Fully charged battery yields 12 hours of radio and 16 hours of light. Stereo headphone socket. Water resistant.

I had one before in the larger version, but, being Rusty Shakelford, I decided to take it apart to see how it worked. There is a HUGE tightly would spring that almost took my arm off when I took it apart. I could never get it back together. Imagine that. This is a mini version that will fit in your pocket. I will not take this one apart.

As promised, here are photos of my new Freeplay radio. It has a solar panel, crank and is dang small. I am impressed with the size. The sound is not too bad, but I get a lot of static over the AM band. But, to be fair, all of my AM radios are really staticey around here. The light will friggin blind you!!! Man it is bright. And I have already dropped it twice and it has help up like a trooper. It is very solid. Overall this is a must buy item. Wish it has shortwave bands though. That small round object is a quarter so you can judge the size.
