Hydration... next to breathing is one of the most important things to have in an emergency. No matter what kind of emergency chances are, your water source may be contaminated.
In my BOB I have an MSR water filter that requires you to pump from a water source and into a bag. In a bug out situation, this time spent on pumping may be a luxury you don't have.
So I remember hearing about water bottles that had filters in them and thought this was a great idea for "HIGH SPEED/LOW DRAG" gear.
It don't make a difference if you are walking back home or running WTSHTF, you gotta drink. I think the idea of dipping your water bottle in a running stream to grab some water on the go fits in with the bug out/bug back/Escape and Evasion concept of gear.
Another cool idea is that you can hook this up to a bag and have a high capacity (up to 500 gallons) drip filter as well. This is a blurb from the wally world :
" Simply use the filter by dipping it inline in a hydration pack or in the bottle, or with a gravity-feed shower bag for large quantities of water. It filters up to 500 gallons of bacteria-free water from any fresh-water source."
So this may fill a need for your bob. Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink... unless you got a filter...
Bottom line it is cheap, effective and has lots of potential!
