Anyone receive any cool gifts yet?
I got a new hand crank flashlight with weather, radio, and it charges cell phones or ipods.

Awesome! I got a book on self-reliant living. BIG book with small text. Need a magnifying glass to read. Packed full of usefull stuff though. Hope I don't loose my glasses!

Edit: Just showed the flashlight link to my wife. She's gonna get me one for my birthday in Feb. Cool!
It has a full size female cig lighter socket?

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

Just got a rail mount UTG laser/flashlight. I'd looked at these earlier this month, they looked good for the $67.50 price tag. A bit bulky on my service (4") XD45...but seems right at home on my tactical (5") version. Has momentary and constant switch, and can be set for light only, laser only, or both. Metal housing, seperate batteries for light/laser. Ambi switches.

Yeah, it's charging right now, so I'm playing w/the M1, figuring out the strip, etc. I've had a poster of one of these on my garage wall forever, knowing that I'd never have one.....My buddies got together w/the kiddo and conspired to make my day. :)

Whelp.....finally got it stripped, and I'm gonna have to order a couple new parts before I can put her through the paces......:(

Need pretty much a complete re-spring, and a new firing pin, plus a new extractor and clip latch.....

Rest of it checks out, though, and according to web pricing, it should be some pretty inexpensive repairs...

I'll be dropping it off @ the local armorer for a little TLC....

I've never handled one of these.....anybody got any tips/advice for a relic rookie?

Yes, as a man that grew-up with the M-1 Rifle I can say with authority to be very careful when depressing the follower with your thumb to release the bolt on an empty rifle. If you do not you will learn what the term "M-1 Thumb" means and how that term originated! Also keep the bolt lugs and thier recesess in the receiver lubricated with grease or graphite. If dry the bolt will sieze during sustained rapid fire.
PS in an emergancy (don't ask me what type because this never happened to me) the rifle can be cocked by rotating the triggerguard foward as you do for field stripping.
