Chainsaw, axe, wedge, basic tools like the mechanics set from wal-mart. Spare light bulbs for the vehicle, fuses, A few cans of fixaflat, tire plug kit. straps, straps, chains, binders, rope. Tarps, blankets, and some drinking water. I got stuck in a traffic jam due to a wreck on the interstate and was glad I had water and blankets. I didn't need the blankets due to plenty of fuel. I don't ever let the tank get lower than half if I can help it. This is a start of what I have available in mine. Oh and a heavy duty high lift jack. Came in handy when I dropped a wheel in a small sinkhole on a trail I couldn't see. I lifted the whole front of the truck up and pulled it away from the hole. I couldn't use a winch in that situation it would have damage my steering links and other stuff on my front end dragging me out. My BOV is a 90 suburban built up. It can carry a ton of stuff. At times I wish I had a bigger truck. I think I will add a double hitch adapter in the back so I can have a rack on the hitch at the same time with a trailer, and a good roof rack.

My first BOB was made entirely from dollar store stuff. Food, shelter, water and fire was covered. Cooking and water was cheep. I even got my pack from there as well as a knife and food enough for 2-3 days. It took me about 3 weeks to put it together a bit at a time and I spent under $60. I have moved on to surplus gear but still shop there and at goodwill for cheep gear and disposable items for my family BOBs.

My favorite place to get cheap Bob/kit items is dollar tree and harbor freight.
All the items in the first picture cost a dollar or less. The folding knife and match holder are a Buck at Wally world. [IMG][/IMG]
The fire steel is from harbor freight cost 2.99 reg price 1.99. When there on sale[IMG][/IMG]

Cheap??? How about free. If you join harbor freight's mailing list they send you coupon freebie every week. They have a 9 led flash light that is sweet for the price. Also I've been checking out freebie web sites. You can get anything from food and coffee to tools and flash light. All they ask for is your name, address and email and they send them to you. When you have no choice, you have no fear!

Well they do ask for an email so be prepared to be bombbarded with junk mail, I have a second email just for that. For the Harbor Freight deal, its 100 percent free. I work next to one and take advantage of it all the time. My friends and family have the flash light to prove it.When you have no choice, you have no fear!

a folding handsaw. two dollars at the Dollar store. one of the best buys Ive made. had the thing for four years now. and have used it alot on hiking and camping trips.
waterproof pill bottles to store things like matches, tinder, spices or what have you. just ask at the Pharm if they can give you a few.
Roll of twine, hand as all get out.
Meat skewers can be used as spear fishing heads, tent stakes, in hunting traps and a ton of other things.
