  • Cheap things to buy for your BOB.

I think the hardest part about getting a BOB together is probably the expensive items. Lets start a list of the cheap but useful items.

    -Ziplock bags.
-Candles...maybe some that wont melt in your pack.
    -Toilet paper.

    -zip ties
    -duct tape
    -spare undies

Large trash bags, pencil and notebook, bic lighters, matches, cotton string. Take a stroll through a Dollar store and you will be able to stock up on some things cheap.

I found a food dehydrator on craigslist for $20. Between that and $10 for meat and $10 for seasoning, I will have a few pounds of jerky. Already cheaper than the prepackaged jerky.

A good and cheap fire starter is cotton balls soaked with petroleum jelly in a sealed container or zip lock bag. Dryer lint is also very flammable, maybe soak it in petroleum jelly and do some testing...

Alcohol Based hand sanitizer (Purell) also makes a good fire starter. I keep mine in a 1st Aid kit for the intended purpose too.

Well the whole cotton ball in petroleum jelly did not work. I also tried alcohol which lasted for about 2 minutes. I tested dryer lint which would only smolder for a couple of minutes. I think the best thing would be cotton balls in isopopyl aka fuel line de icer. Im starting to think that wefire by ultimate survival would be the best. About $1 a peice, but looks to be pretty good.

When you make the cotton balls and vaseline use just enough vaseline where you can still fluff up the cotton ball and expose and seperate the individual fibers. One way to do it is to smear vaseline on your hands and then wipe your hands off with a handful of cotton balls. Keep experimenting till you get the right results. It works.

Lets see here ... a 9vlt battery and some wire wool works great as a fire starter it may not last long but burns hot . finger condoms are cheap , use them as intented or put over the barrel of your rifle to help keep rain and snow out.glow sticks about 1.00 each, sliver ware.

Along with snare wire I also put two or three rat traps for getting small game. Trioaxane fuel tabs. A visine eydrop container filled with unscented bleach, use 4 drops or so per quart of water, wait 30 minutes and then presto you got water fit to drink if there is a slight bleach odor to it, if not then add 2 more drops until you can barely smell the bleach.
