I really like the looks of that setup Dale. Most all the weight is on the hips and till looks like room for a hydration bladder to be up higher. Guess need to do a little more shopping around...

On the load thing it looks like this will marry up with their packs so that would help to counterbalance the load up front and vice versa I think.

Hadn't thought about the getting close to mother nature angle. That's the disadvantage you could say of never having been under fire. Thank you for that insight. Seems like see so many current military carrying heavy on the chest gear setups hadn't thought about it.

Might still look to get one for a light rig to add to a day pack for hiking with the scouts to see how it works. and again gives me a place to conceal though don't think we're supposed to on an outing but I'm a realist. Not worried about getting mugged on the trail but never know when you might cross a rabbid critters path. Happened when I was a kid in Scouts. out hiking and we came across a coon acting all weird and as he got closer could see he looked rabbid. next thing we know, BOOM! Scoutmaster had pulled out his 1911 from somewhere and popped 'ol Rocky Racoon. Had he not, as aggressive as that thing was being, pretty sure someone might have gotten bit.

Just a little something to consider. I know of one older gent still working as an operator and he says he is really liking his Mystery Ranch rig and only carries what he considers necessary, "bullets, water and a IFAK and no more when he can". A less expensive knock off is Condors battle belt and H harness. Just an idea.

I'm not sure about that chest rig. It looks to me like if your carrying much of a load it's going to really shove your neck forward and put a strain on your back. It doesn't distribute the load very well but appears to concentrate the load to your neck. Now to show my age. I'm not a big fan of chest rigs or anything that keeps my chest away from the ground if bullets are flying around. Even with the old ALICE gear I used an H harness and had my ammo and canteens as far back as I could carry them. When me and the good earth needed closeness, the belt got unfastened, quick.. Just a personal preference

What do u all think? pluses or minuses? I'm thinking this might be best for hikes with the scouts but I do like it looks like it would offer a place for concealed chest carry.

A 3 day style backpack that looks well made. May be worth looking into if you need to upgrade:cool: Not a bad price @ $29.99 for 2590 cubic inches.
