How many of you have freezers?

What are you folks storing in these buried freezers?

I have pretty much everything you would have in a bug out bag, in every freezer, just in much greater quantity. In addition, each freezer has a theme and contains a large supply of one particular type of item. There is a food stuff freezer, firearms freezer, ammunition freezer, comfort items freezer and a not disclosed freezer. The last freezer that was just finished and still needs to be stashed is a firearms / ammuniation freezer. They all also contain what I think would make good barter goods.

The burried freezers are down around 8 feet. The freezers stored in mines are down less than 1 foot. I pull every freezer out every several years and rotate some of the supplies, change the seals, clean and oil the firearms, etc. It only takes about 2 days to pull it out, clean it up and get it back down. So, I don't feel like I am wasting a lot of time. I will usually, but not always, move it to a new location. My oldest freezer was stocked over 15 years ago. In that time, it has been cleaned up / refreshed several times and not once have I had a problem with the items stored inside. All of the weapons need a serious cleaning before they can be used, but that is to get off all the oil and greased used to store them.

If the man ever starts going door to door and collecting all your firearms, then hiding in a closet or basement just will not cut it. Good luck finding my freezer. They are specifically burried so as not to be detectable by a metal detector that would be used by a miner or such.

For the other persons question. Most if not all the time, you will get the freezer for free. Not hard to find, try Craigslist. Everyone seems to think they need the big garage deep freeze and then most eventually never use it.

Being a raging enviromentalist I cannot even conceive of digging a hole that size, then filling it with capitalist goods. I depend upon the largesse of The Annointed One to keep me safe!

I think you forgot to put up the sarcasm sign... Really, who has this many freezers laying around to use this way? I've got one and it currently holds food waiting to be canned and/or dehydrated/jerkied.

Oh frost line is 8 to 12 inches.

Winters in Missouri are wimpy compared to Michigan, where I was raised. Most are at 6 feet. A couple is just barely below surface. Got 1 more to bury when finished.

Those would be great. Wish I could find some. All of mine were free, just not all as well built as I hoped. Rhino Line is a good idea. I just did the rattle can.

How deep do you go and what is your winter like?

1940's Fredricksons, Rhino Lined the outside. Got the freezers free, Rhino liner cost me about $40.00 ea.

I have some "freezers" scattered about.

What do you use for your freezers? My first couple, I was lucky to find some 1920's or 1930's freezers. Built like a tank and VERY easy to seal. I like them the most and am very comforable with storing items that might rust in other containers. I have not been able to find any more, so now I am using chest style freezers like you would keep in a garage. For one, I used a dorm size fridge, since it was a small stash.

Unfortunetely, the only freezer i have is the one I use for my frozen food preps. It's brand new and my old one went to my daughter to use.

I have six freezers now. Three are burried, two are in old mines and one is waiting to be burried. Each on is heavy on a particular theme, but contains a little bit of everything else.

How many freezers do you have and how do you decide to pack them and where do you stash them? And when I say freezer, I don't mean a ammo can burried somewhere, I mean a real freezer with a significant amount of gear.
