Emergency Essentials has a couple of radios that are priced pretty well. The main radio has 4 ways to run it- hand cranking, solar, battery, or plug in. Here is a link to it and others.
I have a Grundig Porshe Design, AM/FM/SW/NOAA radio that I used while on military deployments. It's not too big, pretty loud, has an alarm and survived several extended trips. (Nothing like trying to find out what's going on outside your direct sphere of influence without any luck. Picked up a lot of intel during Desert Storm from the BBC via SW.)
I have been wanting to upgrade to a solar/crank model for a while now. Just never got around to it. I have looked though and I think a +1 to Skyowl's choice. The Eton FR600, only in tacticool black. http://www.etoncorp.com/product_card...uctDbId=915890
I think that even with the crank/solar and rechargable batteries the GMRS/FRS ability uses too much power. I have other radio's for that. I want this one for pulling in information, maybe even a lil' entertainment. The Eton FR600 looks like a packable sturdy radio. I like the NOAA and SAME features. You won't be getting alarms from all over just the area you want. Lets you sleep and saves battery life by limiting alarms. I also like that it uses AA batteries. That makes it compatable with my other electronic Items keeping my battery stores to AA, AAA, and CR123. Link to spec sheet, http://www.etoncorp.com/upload/conte..._FR600spec.pdf
It has a lot of features I'm looking for in an emergency radio. It's not the cheapest but I try not to buy "emergency gear" based on cheap.
Mags. This is very very tacticool!!!!! I am likeing this a lot. I see it on Amazon for anywhere from $50 bucks to $80. I don't think I should buy any used emergency equip. so new it will be. I thank you for this !

Ah, Skyowl posted a link first. I just agreed cause it's the one I was looking at. Seems pretty sweet to me. At least for my needs currently and the forseeable future.:)

Well, sumbitch, I did it again, and it's all your fault. I just pulled the trigger on a combo deal off amazon. I got both the Eton FR600B and Micro Link FR160B radio's. Both of these radio's have similar features, like solar/hand crank capabilities.
Guess I'll have to drag them along on my next outings so I can put up some type of review................. ;) Just kidding, I've been meaning to upgrade my emergency radio. I can't wait to get them out there and put them through there paces.
