  • After sundown....

Not much mention that I have found here on this site about how one intends on staying alive...between sundown and sunrise? If you intend on sleeping during that time do you have others watching your back? Did you think or hope that all the bad guys wanting to plunder to survive would also take that time to sleep and leave you alone? We are realists here at our group. We realize that the cover of darkness empowers bad biker zombies to attempt to probe your position. Where ever it is.

Can you see in the dark? I mean better than the zombie? What if the intruders have NVG? If they do you are more than likely to wake up dead unless you also have them and someone observing the perimeter after dark.

Do any of you have NVG and if so share about the make/model and price range. Then just how far on a dark night can you ID a possible threat? How do you intend on dealing with that threat if it approaches?

Just an observation here...but over our extended course of meeting other preppers/survivors NVG had not entered into their plans. These units are widely available and all it takes is one mutant zombie biker with a set to rub you out after dark.

may sound silly but that is the one piece of equipment i would try not to use. if your eyes have not been exposed to any light source you can see great at night. the problem with this is people rely on flashlights at night killing there night vision. it can take more than an hr for your eyes to adjust back to the light so people never realize how well they can see at night. no need to trust your life to an electric gizmo when god gave you everything you would need. also forgot to mention if its super dark your peripheral vision is better than looking straight at it. so if you are trying to see something dont look directly at it. sounds stupid but its the truth. just my 2 cents

[the problem with this is people rely on flashlights at night killing there night vision. ]
Make sure your not holding that flashlight in your hands or are standing anywhere near it when it gets turned on....perhaps a zillion watt flood light is what you had in mind.
[it can take more than an hr for your eyes to adjust back to the light]
About 30 minutes on average ....depends upon length of time exposed to the light.
[god] gave you everything you would need. also forgot to mention if its super dark your peripheral vision is better than looking straight at it.]
        That would be spelled God
[if you are trying to see something dont look directly at it.]
Its referred to as off center viewing....and its important to scan...scan...scan...
Don't underestimate the abilities of someone with NVG's who is accustomed to using them.

(god) is supposedly a proper noun (ie: a specific instance of a type of object), but how can a noun be proper if it does not exist? Furthermore, you only capatlise it when you are talking about a specific god, for example when I talk about God, but not when im talking about god. Lets stay on subject if you would like to discuss the proper way to spell (god) im sure there is another section for you to go around correcting people for the sake of sounding smart.

I think you have to take into account what the situation you are in, is. If you are out and know you are beoing hunted, you have to get real creative about where and how you sleep...in a tree, under leaves/a bush etc.. A person needs sleep in order to be fit and healthy. If you are at your bug in location, you split shifts with another, take away the other guys night vision with perimeter fires, instant lights, cammo.

              Iraq

Our armed forcs rule the night in comabt zones because they ...rule the night with night vision. It is so important it is Illegal to ship it outside our country.

Untill you try something it is not to wise to say it will not work? We can demo to others the fact that they can not see a 6' tree 200 yards out in the dark that we knoiw is there. They agree and have good young eyes.

They look through the NVG and can not only see the tree that was not there but also count the branches on it.... they are blowin away totally and then buy some for themselves. One can go into a dark closet after sundown and turn them on and read what is written of a box. Can you do that with your God given night vision?

God did not give you guns and ammo, but you got some now.... you aren't meaning if God did not give it to you... you don't need it? People can create the funniest excuses to justify why they don't do something like try it before they condem it.

Batteries? AA and they can be recharged in no time but will run these units for nights. Weapons optics are such that they co-witness with NVG and one can place a centered kill shot at 10 feet to 200 yards or more with good quality units. Flashlight have batteries don't they???

Last point is this..assume nothing. An enemy with NVG can and will take you out first if you "think" you can out see them.

                  Dogs??/

Got four large German Shepherds on patrol out here in the countryside. Know what... they can see and sense stuff I can not see at all... Put on NVG and I can see just what they know is out there 100' to a couple hundred yards off in the dark.
They hear better, smell better, see better and provide me with better info than my plain old eyes can in the dark any night of the week.

Looks like some sensitive nerves exposed here....have someone take a look at that for ya before you have to grab your BOB and run to your BOV to head out to your BOL....life isn't going to improve much after that....
