  • Cannot Bear Arms

Okay, this might not be the best place for this so if you need to move it that's okay with me D.
    Anyway..........
I cannot bear arms because of some foolishness in my much distant past. So....I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas what I can use to defend me and mine. I thought of bows but have you seen the cost of those things lately? About 6 months ago I was looking at one for around $300 and it has jumped up to $500 now. I can't swing that kind of dough. I don't even know if I can get a bb gun. lol
Well, if you have any ideas I'd appreciate it. I have knives, but they're for cooking.
I'm a good shot but that doesn't do me much good if I can't get hold of any kind of firearm. I doubt if I'd really care if I'm legal or not if and when TSHTF but finding something on the streets isn't too good of an idea in my books.

I believe you can own a BB gun or pellet gun.

Several options. Have somebody close to you hold a firearm for you until TSHTF. When it does, laws will be meaningless, for the most part. This time of year pawnshops are over run with bows. One by me has several nice ones around $100-200. I plan on picking up an extra. The pellet gun MAY be an option, but years ago I was not allowed to own firearms, and airguns were included. Thankfuly that is way behind me now.

You should be able to own a pellet gun Unswydd. As for a bow, keep an eye on your classifieds as you may come across a good deal. You might want to check out pawn shops as well. Husband just informed me that some sporting goods stores get trade-ins, too.

There is a legal route to getting your rights restored....speak with your local law firms about seeing what might be done for you....my uncle had his rights to vote and own firearms, etc. restored 15 years after his release from the clink on a 3 year felony rap....

In NC and I believe in other parts of the country as well, a black powder firearm does not require a permit or background check. I don't know the specifics of your court order and your state and what the powers that be consider to be a firearm. A .44 cap and ball will stop a living creature about as quick as a modern day firearm. I also agree with the idea of having a friend purchase one for you and holding on to it until such time as it is needed. I don't know if you are married, but your wife can certainly own a firearm if she is not a felon.

bb gun, black powder, compound bow. you can have your record cleaned its a little pricy but worth it in the long run. i hate to say it but it is super easy to score a gun on craigslist. as a matter of fact i saw 6 guns posted online this morning. anyone of those people would sell to you no questions. the problem then becomes being in possession of a firearm when your not permitted is a felony. i would suggest if you really need something. buy one on CL seal it and bury it just make sure you have plenty of ammo. you wont be able to find any when SHTF. keep it buried until you get you legal problems figured out or you will have more legal problems. hope this helps

I've always believed that the right to keep and bear arms should be reenstated after a parole has expired....it is, after all, Constitutionally guaranteed, and the Feds really had no business circumventing that right in the first place.....

I, of course, am in complete agreement with you on this one Big_Saw!
I Have not been on parole (not for the dui that was another issue) for over 15 years and getting a DUI expounged is impossible. I tried. They absolutely will not even consider it! So a Felon I stay. I just got caught is all. Turned left when I shoulda turned right. HUMPH! LOL
BTW, I am a SWF 53 years Young! LOL There's no husband or children. Never had kids. Not by choice tho. Anyway, I appreciate all the suggestions. I asked my nephew to get me a gun. He said he would but it would end up being registered to him anyway. That's okay cuz when it all comes down I'm not gonna care if I'm caught with a firearm. I have shot all my life, hunted and just for fun sometimes. I know what I'm doing they just don't approve of it.
Thanks again! I might check out craigs list.

I would look into black powder and not just long guns, they make revolvers too. I do not think having another person buying you a fire arm is a good way to go. It is known as a straw purchase and it is a federal offense and both of you could face doing some real time.

I'm sure you're right Omegaman. I don't like the idea at all really. So...black powder huh? I think I know right where to go for that. I do volunteer stuff with the Lincoln Home over here in IL and there are a lot of guys that have them. I think I can probably get one fairly easily.

powder isent going to do anything if you where to get into a gun fight you would have the one shot you loaded then you would be to busy trying to take cover to load your next shot. you can get the powder revolver that will shot 5 but then you have to figure thats 5 shots you are going to have to take the time and load one by one. my friend had the very same problem. he went and paid his attorney 1500 and had his record cleaned. sounds expensive but he was able to land a better job because of it and he made the money back very quickly. i wouldn't rely on powder i would buy a bow before i bought a powder as main means of protection.

i live in arizona, where you don't have to register your guns, and i've heard from felons that after 7 years you can legally own a gun again here...depending on the crime...but i always buy my guns from private sellers. you can find them walking around gun shows here carrying signs of what they have to sell. that way, there are no background checks, no record of you owning it, and since you don't have to register it in az, no one will ever have to know you have it. other than that, i suggest having a friend or relative buy one for you. then clean it very thoroughly, take all the metal parts and dip them in cosmoline, put it back together, and bury or hide some place secret and safe.....either way, good luck!
if the kids are united, they will never be divided......

This is all something I've been thinking about.I cannot get my record exponged. I tried to do that and because it is a DUI they will never let me off the hook. I am stuck with it for the rest of my life. I have some other things that could be cleaned up but what's the point if I can't get one off and it still leaves me a felon. It sometimes feels a bit hopeless when I think about it too much.
And as for Arizona I'd love to be able to go there and buy a gun but I don't see it happening really. I really wanted to get some suggestions as to what I could do other than have a firearm. I do know how to make snares and traps. I was married to a military man for some years and he was really big on survival. I am going to get a black powder revolver and keep it for the last shot and make it count. It may have to be for me.
                              Thanks to everyone .
