  • thoughts on making your own survival packs...

I think that each person should post their list of gear that they'd carry itshtf.
Make it a contest. Whoever has the lowest weight to item ratio( basically the most bang per ounce) wins the contest.
    Rules-
    1. You must post EVERYTHING, down to the weight of your shoelaces. If that is not possible, guess, but be realistic.
    2. The gear must be obtainable and LEGAL within the United States, via federal law. No machine guns, please.
    3. Each item must be tagged as to why you would carry it. Remember, weight is at a premium.
    4. You must be able to sustain yourself for 3 months minimum w/ said gear.
You must be able to hunt, fish, gather, and defend using only what you can carry. Basically, no carts, cars, or wheelbarrows. By the way, you cannot carry more than 30% of your own weight. for every 100 lbs you weigh, you must only carry 30 lbs at most.
    5. Be creative.
    Have fun!

      Oh, yeah...

Pride, prestige, and the adoration of all.
Seriously, though, it's more of an effort to let people learn how to pack conservatively.

Conservative, heck...I pack out 90# + and plan on being comfy, warm and well-armed, regardless of wieght....and that's just my BoB and BatBag....count my BulkBag and IB and I'm around 220#, but they're both expendable...;)

BTW.....Who thunk up this ratio? Seems pretty light, other than a scout loadout.....

I think you should offer up a $25.00 Cabela's gift certificate to the winner (of course it will more then likely be me).

Okay, fine, we'll adjust the weight...

You can carry as much as you want, but the new limit is:
You have to be able to carry it for at least twelve miles on rough terrain.
I can't carry much, so I carry a light load. Besides, I don't need as many calories, and my tracking skills aren't rusty, so hunting is a tad easier.
To be honest, I max out in carrying capacity at 75 lbs. That's IT.

Yeah...and he's just a lil rodent.....seriously...if you're serious about being able to bug...you should be able to at least hump half your wieght in gear at least 6 miles at a time w/o rest....it's not like you're gonna be jogging with your BoB.

I mean, c'mon....as a carpenter, I carry over 25# just on my hips for 8-10 hours a day, continuously, plus nailgun, saw, lumber, etc.....

I'm still working up to 110# of gear, but seem to have everything I need with around 90#....guess I just need to hump more ammo.;)

                              Really? I didn't know...

I've never really realized until I did my own list just how much you need.
I'm used to multiple people carrying parts of the camp load, not one person carrying everything. Well, I guess I seriously need to get in shape.
