I am just back from the SHOT Show, Brunton had a couple of flexible solar panels for sale, (and a SUPERB butane fired portable coffee maker!). Good stuff!

Does anyone have any experience with solar battery chargers? I would like to get one this year but don't know how well they work and if it would be worth the $'s.

I have 7 12v batteries and they make a good back up power supply. Can run a lot of things with them.

briefcase solar charger

If you are interested in a briefcase solar charger, check ebay, can generally be found cheaper.

Be aware however, this is not something you would want to hike with, i have one, it works fine for camping close to the vehicle you came in, but it is too heavy for a long hike. Either stash one somewhere or be prepared to stay close to transportation if you need something like it.

also, 15w is for very limited use of larger devices like laptops with an appropriate storage battery, which again would be heavy. think about it, 6 sun hours per day or less, 15w, 90wh, so you could run a laptop about an hour under ideal conditions. Longer for ipods, cell phones, etc.
