When this list popped up way back when we were preparing for Y2K, the author said that they ate more soup than anything, it was easy to prepare in case the kids were fixing a meal, and the kids didnt like tuna, etc. with a tweak or two, it can be modified to fit your own needs. Some, like Rusty for example, might like beans instead of tomato soup. Or sardines. or salmon. Its a basic guideline on how to plan, mostly.
They made a lot of sweets for the kids, like pan brownies and pies, etc. Sugar is easily bartered, too. Plan on some good bartering for lots of stuff, with a little bit of flour and sugar.
And yes, you will need some kind of grinder, preferably a handcrank one (yanno, cuz we are preparing for no electricity and stuff....):cool:

I'm new to this "list". Serious questions:
Why so much sugar?
Explain in some detail how to use the wheat. Need grinder, right?
Why so much soup and so little tuna for instance?
I'm sure I can research a bit and figure it out, but can somebody take the time to explain a typical weeks menu and prep required?

When I started prepping I found this list, and it really helped out alot...at least to put things into perspective, and then my planning nature kicked in and it all made sense.
We maintain ourselves at a 3 year storage plan, and let me tell you, moving it from Phoenix out here to Midland was truly, a below average experience.

Today we bought 20 cases of assorted Vegetables for $6.99 a case. Our local grocery has better prices than China Mart. He will order as many cases as I want at these sale prices. When I approached him about buying large quantities I told him that i would per pay all my orders. The expression on his face went from,I don't to you betcha. LOL:D

wheat, 240 lbs sugar, 40 lbs of powdered milk, 13 lbs of salt, 10 lbs of honey, 5 lbs of peanut butter, 45 cans of tomato soup, 32 cans mushroom soup, 15 cans tuna fish, 10 macaroni and cheese dinners, 500 aspirin, and 730 multiple vitamins plus they suggest adding 6lbs of dried yeast and 6 lbs of shortening and this should be enough to sustain 2 people for a year. For every 2 people you have in your family add $5 more and double or triple the amount of whatever you are buying that week. I hope this makes sense and if you have any questions let me know. For those of you not in the US, you'll have to figure out the equivalents yourself.
