food storeage
we have saved some dry foods in 5 gallon plastic buckets with sealed lids for about 5 years and it is still good. we put the food in zip lock bags and then in the buckets. If you are going to store grains or beans anything weevils may like. and weevils seem to like any and everything.
You should freeze the product for about 30 days before storing it in the buckets. everything you buy has weevil eggs in it and freezing kills them. Also if one is growing to store seeds for growing food during a disastor or whatever, be sure the seeds are not from hybrids they will produce a plant but nothing edible, such as squash etc.

Cheapest way. Get some dried ice. Fill the pails 3/4 full. Place the dried ice in the open pail and let it "melt". Do not disturb the pail. When the ice is melted, seal the lid. Dried ice is CO2 and is heavier then air. It will fill the bucket, driving out the other gases. You will have an O2 free (or mostly so) environment.
