  • Grow 100 lbs of Potatoes in 4 Square Feet

I have never tried this, but sounds interesting. Similar to potatoes in a barrel.

Growing potatoes in just a few square feet is a promising concept, but how successful is it? Here's the scoop along with pointers & tips to get you started.

Quite the clever gardening tip here folks! Today’s feature includes tips from three different sources for growing potatoes vertically (in layers) instead of spread out in rows across your garden. If you have limited garden space or want to try some nifty gardening magic, this could be a great option for you.

    Growing the magic Spud.

    Lostinoz,

Maybe you know, maybe not. But out car tires stacked layer after layer also works great. Easy to harvest, very little space required.

Wait, I had read about using tires. I don't do a lot of small space gardening, but am wanting to add a few areas here and there in my yard. I did read something about recent (don't know how recent) tires containing a chemical?? Do you know anything about that?

Here's one I stumbled on the other day, I want to try this one as well!

?Angel trumpet is the common name for brugmansia, a flowering plant in the Solanaceae family. Although it is related to the tomato, brugmansia is highly toxic if ingested or if it comes into contact with the eyes. Angel trumpet blooms in huge, white, trumpet-shaped flowers that open at twilight and close at the first ...

Wife, yes we discussed this here on xcolony. I think someone mentioned that it would be better using a trash can, cutting drainage holes in the bottom. I may try this as well as an experiment.

            Growing the magic Spud.

Ya, I haven't heard anything until now regarding chems leeching from the tires used for the potato stack.

I like the bag idea also, requires more ground for multiple bags but, easy harvesting.

I've seen several posts here about using tires in the garden and wondered why on earth anyone would do that.

If I read the bag idea correctly, you keep adding dirt and layers (like the wooden one), and end up with a bag of pots. I have an aging bag of pots in the kitchen, may have to cut some of them up!
