    The only way that I have had coon that tasted good was par boiled and then thrown on BBQ grill with BBQ sauce. ( finger licking good ):D Possum is best prepared the same way. Last year for the first time I ate wood chuck and it had a sweet grassy taste. My grandfather was a guide and trapper and he use to say you dont always have the luck or time for big game, so with him I have eaten beaver, muskrat, rabbit, squirrel, porcupine, snapping turttle, frog and deer, bear and moose. Heck 1 summer I would be hard pressed to think of a day we did not eat eel for some meal. Some tasted great and some not so good but when you are hungry it all tastes goood

    The old farmer/coon hunter, that I hunted with as a kid, would have a appreciation cookout every year for all the local farmers that let us hunt on their property. We would play cards, pitch horseshoes, drink some beer, and eat barbecued coon. He would put several in a large butchering kettle and boil them and then pick all the meat off and put in electric skillets (crockpots were not around yet) add bbq and simmer. It was as good as any pork or beef bbq I ever ate.

    The Owl has brought home dove and elk from various mantrips. When I was growing up in Montana, we ate the walking fruits of the forrest, but there was so much deer, elk, moose, bear, and rainbow trout (guess they don't walk in the forrest real well, huh? :p) that we never had coon, squirrel or possum. I'm game, though, I'd try 'em!

    We did try a timber rattler that one of my uncles shot.

    When in Germany, I noticed in the window of butcher shops these LITTLE tiny bird bodies in the windows. Think they were sparrows or something - THAT is dedicated! You'd have to eat like 2 dozen of the damned things.

    If it has a pulse, I'll kill and eat it....other than present company....don't have a pot big enough for humans....but if I did...well.....I think I'd start with....um.....probably OBP...nothing personal...I just love bacon, and, well....there is the "pig" in his handle..... :D ...oh yeah, there's also porkchop76....heh heh heh... :eek:

    The host reminded me of the one-handed murderer from the TV show "Prison Break". One thing is for sure; that man won't go hungry.

    While stationed in Korea I tried Balut; it is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. And no it didn't taste good. The special sauce only made it worse and the Tequila chaser only served to enhance the delightful after-taste of this fine delicacy (Not!). But hey the rounds were free after that, and as I was ending my tour of duty at the ROK.

    I haven't tried Racoon but if I can eat Balut, I suppose Racoon would be a breeze by comparison. Just use the military's favorite flavor killer (Hot Sauce). Also if you have ever seen a freshly skinned coon, it looks alot like a developing human fetus! One thing is certain, it's best to harvest such animals after a good frost and/or cook them at high temps to avoid/kill the parasites and the nasties they may harbor.
