  • Meal Planning Baseline

Just wondering what you use as your "baseline" for food stocks? Do plan for three meals a day, business as usual; two meals a day; one meal, or do you calorie count, say 2500 calories a day and plan that way. Or do you just stock and store food haphazardly? Just asking.

We have planned for two meals a day, with a caloric intake of 2500-3000. This may seem a little high, but anticipating greater physical exertion. Additionally, we have stored and planned for "comfort" foods that are above and beyond the daily meal plan.

Just looking to see how others are planning...
    Thanks for sharing,

I am two months into my "tracking of food consumed". From coffee to oils, sugar to veggies and pasta's. Hard work requires lots of chow as you have noted. I'm trying to create a average menu for it all now. Two meals a day with a heafty snack or two is more in my thinking. Two full MRE's per day for a man my age would cause a explosion.Smile.

I am trying for 2 main meals, light lunch and snacks, daily. By creating a monthly menu, I am able to stock up on all that is needed for each month. It is a system that works for me. :)

I do have items that I have purchased haphazardly and are not really counted in the meal plans.

I plan on 2 meals a day plus at least one snack. I also repeat foods, so it makes it easier to plan. ex: we have pasta at least once a week, therefore I know that if I have 50 pounds in the pantry I will have enough. If I go through a pound of coffee every two weeks, I pick up coffee on sale and try to have 8-12 cans on hand. People sometimes get so wrapped up in the calory intake that they forget the small stuff that makes a meal taste right for you, like condiments, gravy, dried fruit, popcorn etc..:)
