Hmmm water I have in abundance. We have a 300 gallon tank, plus 4 50 gallon barrels, a rain catch system, a river nearby and several ponds (last resort)

We also have agency owned emergency equipment on the property, so of course the water from their tanks can be used for non-potable.

Food, we have beans and rice in dry storage, enough for 4-6 months for the three of us. We also have a large stash of canned goods, enough for 2-4 months.

I also hunt, forage, garden and fish, so as long as the yahoos around me don't flood the woods with desperate hunters, then I should be able to suppliment our food-stores.

Because I work for an emergency response agency, as soon as there is anything, we get large supplies of MRE's and water delivered to the office behind my house. So as long as there is no HUGE event, (EMP) then I will also have access to these things.

There are 4 people at my house and my mother-in-law would not be able to bug out if things go crazy. Therefore we have over 90% of our supplies for staying put. We have approximately 8-10 months of canned goods, rice both white and brown, beans (several types), cereals, etc. However, we are still increasing the amount of water in our storage area. Takes a lot of water for 4 people for a year.

We have figured it out as hubby and I only eat 2 meals a day anyway. We get up early in morning and do yard work and house work. then come in clean up and start breafest or more like brunch and then we don't eat again until dinner around 5 or 6. the kids are the same way except for the youngest and he is 10. The one daughter with 3 children ages 19,16 and 10 has a very large supply of canned goods in different parts of the house. She is still stocking so between us we are very sure on these calulations that we have enough food now to hold us for 2 years. This does not count what is in the freezer as I did not calucalte that into the amount of food since this is what we are using now.

We can feed ourselves for 8 months, water comes from well. Also live on large creek, my avatar is my back yard. Have filter if creek water is needed for drinking.

I think he wants to know how long you can support your family on what you currently have stored. Not what is projected in an future garden.

For my personal family of 3 we have 900 meals (Wise foods), 600 quarts of vegs/meat canned, 20 days worth of food from pantry, and 1 ton of various dried grains/rice in 55 gallon drums.

Water comes from 3 sources including a river/lake running 1/2 mile from house, fresh water springs on property, 1 artisan well moving at 12 psi on property.

Have approximately 14 months of food put back and enough seeds for 2 years of gardening, so that the next years crop could be stored. Additions would be made with wild game, fish and foraged foods. Need to put back salt, sugar and spices for several additional years. Waters never a problem as long as theres rain or I can get to the river,(1/2 mile away).

Joe: Your post was one of the few that did mention time, and I think my post came out sharper than I had intended. All of the prepping is good, but can you correlate all of those pounds and cans and bags into meals and time? You have done that. I agree in hard times 3 squares may be a luxury, and if we ration we can stretch things a little farther. Just be able to translate inventory into time, however it works for you.

Morgan I understood the question asked, you're assuming that everyone did not take into account on how long it would sustain their family. I made my calculations on the amount of food my wife and I eat on a daily basis, and in a time of crisis it may not be necessary for everyone to eat three meals a day. So with those factors in mind I still stand by my original estimate.

Everyone has done a good job of taking inventory, but you are all missing the point of the original question. How long will it sustain your family if you have no access to groceries or water?

How many people are you providing for? Can you correlate all of those pounds into meals, and into time?

We are probably safe for six months between canned goods, dried goods, and frozen goods. This assumes we have power, although the freezer does not hold much of our long term preps. Water would be about the same before we had to use the ponds and the creek and purify, which we are prepared for. Water is not an issue.

Very simply: 6 months = 180 days x 3 meals = 540 meals x 4 people = 2160 meals. You can do your own calculations, but you should have some method to calculate time.

We have approx. 100 gallons of water on hand, about 2 months worth of canned goods, vegetables, fruits, and all sorts of canned meats, tuna, spam, corned beef, etc. and non-perishables like rice, noodles, flour, sugar, powdered milk, Bisquik (gotta have my flapjacks), etc. Plenty of spices, salt, pepper. If we need fresh meat my hunting area is just down the road. So we would be good for a while, hopefully.

Well there are a few places I've seen them for really cheap money, Try, Tractor Supply Company, Agway, Vermont Country Store, www.katulas.com has a cast iron inch and a quarter pipe thread pump for $99 with free shipping. Hope this helps.

How long are canned goods safe after their expiration date???? As long as I have power I have a freezer full of meat. I also have probably a couple months worth of canned and packaged goods.

You can buy a 12v pumps at auto store $300 bucks. 1 inch inlet /outlet
store pvc to fit pump pipe, get enough wire and right guage couple golf cart batteries charge them with the generator

In the meantime get or make a well bucket,then get a pulley and some rope. I did. You can find how to make one out of PVC on you tube. Cheap and they work. That should hold me until I can afford a hand pump.

Depending on how many make it to the BOL we can hold out for one to two years.

We have just inventoried our stock to see just what we do have and what we need.
we are now up to 300 lbs of asorted dried beans, 400 lbs of rice, canned goods (store bought) we have 524 cans of assorted green beans, corn, butter beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce and paste, kidney beans, fruit fillings for pies, fruit, etc. Then we have everything we have been canning ourselves from the garden and still canning. this includes green beans, salsa, pepper relish, peach preserves, butter beans, squash, may peas, okra, etc. We are just starting to can meat.
On store bought can meat we have 85 cans of tuna, and even more of canned chicken, spam,( underwood develed ham, chicken, beef). canned hams about 27 of these. canned cambells soups. odles of noodles, all kinds of speggetti, and different types of elbow mach. We are on a rotation system that is working well for us and i really did not realize we have the amount of food that we have. We have instant milk both store bought and mountain house. We have a very large amount of the 20 to 25 year foods plus 3 cans of emergency seed food banks. We may have enough to feed our family of us plus our 5 grandchildren and 2 daughters and son in law for a good 2 or more years. This should get us through anything that comes our way if nothing happens. And yes I have run out of room so now I am going to start loading up my daughter's houses as soon as they finish making room. I just hope the well holds out for years to come. May have to make some alterations on it though. not sure about that yet. We have a lot of bottled water as well. and the big berkey water filter with about 8 sets of the black filters. need to get more of these as money allows. both daughters are going to order a big berkey also. that will be a tolal of 3 berkeys for all of us. This should give us enough drinking water per day if not more. i really did not realize just how much food we have until we started to count and check dates on everything. we have 25 jars of peanut butter and just for hubby, i think he can eat a jar in 2 days. As for condoments we have loads of mustard, mayo, ketchup, etc. need to get more white vingar. we have been going through that a lot. Spices we are loaded on. I really had not realized we had as much as we have. We have been stocking now over 4 years. The only thing going out of date are the store bought canned tomatoes and I am making speggtti sauce and salsa with that. It will give those another year at least if not more.
