It's a good idea to stay current on this especially for those do-it-yourselfers who stitch or superglue themself.I think they last 5 years,?

While I agree with the mercury concern (vaccine safety in general, really), it doesn't overshadow my tetanus concern. If you've ever seen anyone suffering from tetany, you know you don't want it. I'll do what I can to reduce my exposure to mercury in other ways before denying myself a tetanus shot. But, that's just my logic. I have no issue with those who think otherwise as long as they're making an educated decision. (Not saying you're uneducated, Rusty! ;))
Here are some Tetanus facts:
*General consensus is that the Tetanus vaccine provides protection for 10 years.
*A booster is recommended with injury after 5 years (some say 1 year)
*Infection exposure is NOT limited to rusty nails/metal. It can be transmitted to any deep injury that doesn't have exposure to air. (animal/human bites, thorns, even glass)
*You don't hear about tetanus infections, but they do still occur. Only about 25% are fatal, but that depends on the health of the victim and how long it took symptoms of the infection to appear. (Generally, the longer it takes to show up, the milder the case. Incubation is 5-50 days.)The government cannot give to anyone anything that it does not first take from someone else.

Funny I came across this.. I just got a tetnus shot yesterday @ the Dr. I knew I had a head cold, and wasnt feeling well. End up having a double ear infection, Im 32? lol... Anyways, a little antibiotics always come in handy.. so the nurse wants to give me a tetnus shot, and its been, ohhhh about 16 years, so I debate, (I hate vaccines) BUT I think its a handy one to get.. ya never know, and given the situation, I dont want to bite it, 'cause I stepped on a "rusty nail", know what I mean? :)If the zombies chase us, Im tripping you!!!

Heck any time the ER has to fix me up they ask when was your last tetanus shot, so I always tell them who knows just give me one to be safe. When I was little me and a buddy were playing in an old chicken coop and we both got pretty scratched up. The next week he was in the hospital real sick and they wanted to know what we did all week, I told them about the coop. I remember his mom telling mine that he had lockjaw and pneumonia and that I didn't see him again for the rest of that summer. The doctors think I did not get sick because I had a tetanus shot right before the summer when I got a fishhook stuck in my foot.
