Wasp and other stings

yep that's the same little bastards...

Until I ran into that nest and got stung, I had never seen one before in my life.. The only other hornets we have here that I've seen are the long thin black ones, which seem like they're retarded.. the yellow jackets, which are very aggressive, and these big brown (mud wasp?) ones that don't seem to bother anyone.
We also have a blue wasp but they don't seem to bother anyone either and I don't think they make community style nests.. they seem to be loners and are not at all aggressive.

Now, after getting my rear end kicked by the bald faced hornets, they seem to have migrated into our area and I'm finding at least two or three nests every year..

Got stung pretty badly 2 weeks ago (24+ stings) on my leg, arm and torso by a nest of yellowjackets. Cutting a couple of dwarf spruces up close to the house and they were in the ground under the tree beside where I was cutting. The thing I wanted to write about though was what was in 2 of the sting sites. Had 2 that were hurting more than the others and not wanting to heal. I thought maybe there were pockets of venom that weren't dispersing so I decided to squeeze them to break them up. When I squeezed the first one some clear fluid started out and then a small ( about 2 mm in diameter) white ball popped out of the hole. Surprised would be an understatement. Did the second site and yep, a second one (exactly the same) popped out. Unless these were venom sacs that somehow got injected under my skin, I have no idea what they were. Did that yesterday and this morning, both sites have healed up and stopped hurting. Anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

Is it possible they were not venom sacs? With a bee sting squeezing just injects more venom. The only possibility I can think of is that your body walled off the venom creating a small cyst. Just a wild guess based on my experience of with iron fillings as a youngster.

Any chance maybe was some type of larvae sack? Never have heard of that with a yellow jacket but I don't know.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I will caution you Dale, you might want to watch yourself going forward or talk to your Dr about getting an Epi-pen to have on hand just in case. It's not uncommon for people to become allergic after a bad attack like you had.

CG, I really hope it wasn't a larvae egg/sack or anything else alive. I survived over seas critters and really don't need that now. LOL! I've been stung probably over 100 times before 2 weeks ago, during my lifetime. So I really try to watch getting stung anymore. These guys surprised me as I have run the lawnmower past them many times this summer. I hate yellowjackets! I did tell my Dr. and she just said to be careful. LOL! Have to love how Dr's think. LOL! This was the first time I was stung enough to make me feel sick for a couple days. It took 4 days for the swelling to go away.

ZaGran, Anything is possible I guess. I've been searching the internet all day and can't find anything similar. Like I said, I HATE yellowjackets!
