  • ? for ya Rusty

I reload quite a bit, but far from an expert, I got 100 round of 220 swift brass that I've recycled 7 times. Its not a super hot load but it does move. The brass does look good. Ive trimmed them probaly three times. How many times can I reload them. Or should I just load them up and put them in a food saver bag for a rainy day when I might need them:D (got that idea from one of your posts which I just enjoyed by the way you crake me up). Oh ya shooting 55gr Vmax using imr 4064 3750fps if this matters.

You may not be loading it hot, but 220 Swift is inherantly a hot load. 3 trims and 7 loads is quite a lot for this little screamer. What I would really be concerned about is the brass starting to seperate from the base. Take a paperclip, straighten it out and bend one end into a mini L. Run it down into the brass and up against the wall near the base and see if you can "feel" any ditch there. This may indicate that the brass is starting to seperate. However, I would say you have pretty much used this brass about as much as you can.

By the way, I am not an expert either. I load a lot too.

Thanks Rusty. I tried that neat little trick and did find some cases going bad. I figure right around 7 out of 100 were bad so far average. Lots better than trying to get a seperated case out of my guns....

I was born in Billings MT and raised in Buffalo Wy. I will look at my huge stash of brass and see if I have any swift. I use to have a few hundred stashed out. It may take me a month or so, but I will get to it eventually.

I am sure there are fancier ways to check your brass, but this is an old school trick I learned when I was too poor to buy the latest and greatest. It has always worked, so why change it, in my opinion.

Glad to have been some help. Let me know if my limited skills can be of further assistance.

Dale, that is a very good trick. The Nosler reloading manual mentions something like that also. Keep in mind that every piece of brass in that lot has been through the same stresses, so if a few are going the rest can't be far behind.
Those who would trade freedom for security will end up with neither.
