Ryan, real simple formula. 7000 grains per pound.

7000/How many grains in one round= how many rounds in a pound.

1 pound of powder is 7000grains, .223 loads are in the neighborhood of 25gn so a pound gets you around 280rounds. .308 loads are in the 45gn range so you get around 155 rounds per pound of powder. Of course it will depend on your particular powder and your particular load but that will give you a rough idea!

I'm no expert here but.... depending on the twist rate on your 223 you might have a hard time geting accuracy with the bigger bullets(62gr) They have a hard time stabalizing. So Ive read. I love the 50 gr Vmax!! See prarie dog? See prarie dog EXPLODE!!!!!!!!!:D

Forgot to say with my 220 swift 55gr Vmax. See praire dog? See prarie dog vaporized!!!!!

50 gr Vmax bullet, H335 powder 26 gr. H335 meters really well. I never had to adjust the Uniflow once. Checked for accuracy every 15 or so rounds. It was within .1 gr every time. GOOD $H!t.

Thanks for the info... I'm just trying to get an idea how much powder I'm going to need. I have 5K rounds of .308 and a few thousand .223 to reload. I bought an 8lb can of powder and I'm going to buy some more now too. Thanks again!

    Powder question

I'm new at reloading and have got just about everything set up and ready to go. My question is, how far will powder go? More specifically, how far will a 1 pound can of IMR 4895 go in reloading .308's and .223's? Anybody have an idea or rule of thumb for how many rounds that will reload?
Working...
