How are iron sights so expensive?

I am looking for iron sights that will be reliable and accurate but not for over $50 for each the front and rear sight. If anyone has experience and can recommend good sights for a smaller budget it would be greatly appreciated.

I have been looking but I don't know if I can trust the different sights I see online.

Magpul....can be had for around $35 front...$50 for rear...

+ 1 on the Magpul. I have their polymer pop up sights as a back up to my red dot and they are co aligned through my red dot.

In reality you are looking the cheap section for sights. If you decided to get into NRA Highpower competition you are going to need much better rear sight with more precise and reliable adjustments and much smaller rear aperture and you are now looking at three digit price range.

The AR sights are for low light, YOUNG EYES, and basically crude adjustments as they are designed to align the bore on large targets at close ranges thus do not need refinements.

The short AR sight radius will be harder to see in your later 30s. They do not give the ability to engage E silhouette size targets at long range but then again the 5.56 is severely limited after 200 yards.

Add another to the Magpul list, I've had them on my AR a couple of yrs now and really like them. I agree, they're BUIS not competition sights, but if you find yourself with a dead battery or a broken optic they'll be there.

i was not liking the idea of plastic or poly..... i just picked up a ar10 and a decent scope but what if scope fails or???? i went iron flip ups(troy) bit more spendy but should be only set i ever need on it. don't get me wrong I'm not knocking Magpul at all, my sons 15 has a set. i just thought if the weapon took a hard enough hit, drop or whatever to kill scope would the poly/plastic flips die as well??

I keep seeing this, and I'm afraid I just don't understand something. Are you talking about a limitation of the short barrel ARs? I qualified with an A2 and we didn't start until 200 yards and went all the way out to 500 with significant accuracy and knock down power...now I'm talking the M16A2 with 20" barrel, not one of the short barrel M4s...does the shorter barrel have that much effect on the 5.56?
