AR Safety Warning

Thunder Ranch of Lakeview OR has had 3 acidental discharges at thier range. All shared 3 commanalities:
#1 an AR 15 type firearm
#2 suspended from a single point sling
#3 the shooter was wearing a chest or vest type mag carrier.
The shooter would drop his weapon during a transistion to a handgun or to cope with the terrain. The free weapon would rub against the webgear and the safety would be moved to the Fire Position. At a latter point the weapon would discharge due to further rubbing or poor trigger finger discipline. Futher, such free weapons routinely point towards the user's legs and feet, the muzzel invariably ends up in the dirt.

I would call that a Negligent Discharge, not accidental. I think most RSO's would agree, that the term accidental discharge was invented by someone that had a negligent discharge and did not want to take responsibility for it.

I agree. I dont think i have ever seen a true accidental discharge. That is a term made up by people that need to learn how to handle there firearms a little better. I have a buddy that has 3 accidental discharges and now has nobody that will go shooting with him anymore. enough said.

I agree with negligent.... But eitherway.... It's still good info, and something to be wary of when running that setup.

I also agree with negligent. Just one more reason for me to not like single point slings.

I have the single point sling . after i bought it a friend of mine who teaches cqc in the nat. gaurd said that they wont even let their gus use them for that very same reason. I am thinking or selling it and getting one like his.
