I don't miss the 500 - 100 yd run downs in the slightest! Last one I did was when I was posted to Chilliwack at a DCRA match. It drizzled all friggin day so I was wearing a pair of rubber gummie boots to try and keep my feet dry. After a long delay they called for my relay to take the prone position. Everything happened so quickly that I forgot to take the boots off. Darn, that was a workout.

LOL Those things were horrendous ,I completed basic and battle school then I quickly got none standard boots because of my foot shape. For years I was out of pocket for them, till the drs agreed and then I was allowed 2 pairs every 2 years unless there was a none warranty failure. Danners! When I remustered to the wavy gravy, I was told bring my chit and go see the board. I showed up in A1 dress w ribbons. showed up also wearing non standard parade boots. I was ripped apart till I produce the chit and the physioterrorists remarks. They quickly apologized and while I got the stink eye alot I didn't care.

In basic and AIT, in Class A greens, I wore low quarters. After jump school, I wore Corcoran boots.
Shop the Corcoran 1500 Black Leather 10" Jump Boots at U.S. Patriot. Corcoran produce top quality paratrooper boots. Buy from US Patriot.

Although none of the sellers know, this is how Airborne laces:

        It protects one's ankles.

Back to original thread, metal. for me. I know the new use plastics are good, but they definitely have an issue with cold. I've hade mag lips break, and mags shatter. Never an issue with metal, as to denting. I can fix a dent myself if it's so bad I couldn't fix it, I'm sure plastic would of shattered.

Bonus, internal length is longer due to thinner materials, allowing a longer OAL.

I prefer metal. Just my opinion and as it's my money, my opinion counts. LOL

In AKs, I have Bulgarian "waffle" magazines; they are a steel reinforced polymer. I also have real Chicoms. They were stuck in customs same as the MAK 90s and 91s

In ARs, steel or aluminum. All have the latest greatest followers.

I have a lot of GI surplus magazines with a new spring and modern follower.

As I believe the Army quit using them. My ex shooting club purchased a bunch of used fall down when hit targets. They had them on the rifle range and also pistol range.
As the range was in a very secluded place, some wannabe idiots shot the pistol targets at close range with rifles using M193 or M855. They did the same at the rifle range.
The club put what was left of them and locked them up in a conex container.

There are instances where fools shoot pounds of Tannerite under a junked car and get an introduction to explosions create shrapnel. I've see pictures that are usually flesh wounds. However sooner or later, a tiny piece of metal will pierce something vital.

News story I recall, some idiot packed a bunch under a lawnmower and took the shot. Shrapnel (some think it was the blade), took off a leg. Theres all sorts of videos of near misses with that stuff.

It's funny until someone gets hurt. Forrest Gump's famous "stupid is as stupid does."

When I worked in Detroit, someone used to pick up a lawn mower to trim his hedges. He did it for decades until he slipped. According to someone else, he used to tie beautiful flies for fishing.
IMO, the older one gets the more stupid things they see or see the results.
