I've shot them and like them. The AK platform is a good reliable weapon. I just don't want another caliber to gather parts and ammo for. But your right it's a fun rifle!!!! And SEXY

I own a few....great guns.....I prefer my AR for accuracy.....but for a weapon that you can totally neglect and it will continue to function....the AK reigns supreme.

My ARs will run accuracy circles around any of my AKs.....which is why we have standardized on the AR.

Martial round in the states....mags are cheap......ammo is fair priced and generally non-corrosive.

Both work....and if the group had to do a switch....the collectors in the group could outfit just about everyone with an AK....:).

Went with my son and grandson to one of 3 family BOL's to break in my grandsons 22 Savage. He's 14 and ready, really ready, to break away from the paintball and airsoft shooting. I took my AK47 and AK74 to compare bullet power. We read data that includes "ft. lbs. of energy" but how does that relate to seeing what really happens. I set up a 6" dia. oak fire chunks on end and shot first the 74 with Wolf 70 grain FMJ from 60 feet. The log tipped but not over. The round went through the log. Then shot the 47 with reloaded 122 grain Winchester soft point with standard powder load and the log was knocked over with ease. I wanted to try Wolf commercial load FMJ's but it started raining so we packed up. If the weather is okay tomorrow we'll continue with the test.

Love the AK platform except for the sights. But all our inventory is 7.63x39. And at this this point in the game I hate to start stock piling another caliber.

My son has a tricked out SKS so we shoot a lot of 7.62 also. The AK74 is great for close shooting with less recoil and not as noisy. Plus the 30 round mags keeps you loaded with ammo! Stick with the 7.62x39.

No shooting yesterday, temp was 23 with winds 15 - 25 mph. Probably not today either. I need to assess the differences between the AK47's 7.62 and the AK74's 5.45. The differences are on paper but not visually. With the bullet weight of the 7.62 being almost 2 times more than the 5.45 and 30% more powder it is certain the AK47 will have more "knock down" force, say at 150 yards. But up to that point I like the 5.45 with less noise, less recoil (aquiring target quicker) and the full 30 round mags are lighter!

Wouldn't trade our AK-47s for anything else! The ammo is cheap, the AK is as rugged as any assault weapon in the world, and they are readily available at less than HALF the price of an AR-15. The SKS runs the same ammo as the AK, and is about half the price of an AK. You can't lose!

The AK-47 is about the ONLY thing the Russians did RIGHT.

Just compare 7.62x39 ammo and .223 ammo (AR-15), and you can see that our soldiers were outgunned in Vietnam, and are still outgunned today, at least when these two weapons are involved.

Had a number of opportunities to carry and use the 47's and 74's operationally in the Army. Good sound weapon, especially the old forged and milled 47 receivers. Not the distance or accuracy of a good AR but nice for close in work, especially for covering your firearms signature if your opponet is using the same caliber. Liked being able to swap out parts with other weapons to keep mine fully operational.
Memory side note: If your ever in a situation where your picking up ammo/mags from a combat area, DO NOT USE THIS AMMO, until it has been inspected for quality. Old trick, is to load the occasional round with C4 explosive, load it in a partial mag and drop them in hostile territory. Nasty surprise for the unsuspecting shooter. LOL.

Well, like anything.. You get what you pay for! There is a BIG 'ole difference between an Arsenal AK and a Yugo knock-off. (Have/had both) If you want a gun that sprays bullets down range, a cheap AK is the way to go! I agree IF you can get a real Russian AK, they are finer shooters.

GOSH! We've been over this a million times. Here and every gun forum on the web.

The deal is if you can poke holes in the other guy the fastest, you win. Do you trust your rifle to do that fast and efficiently? Well then.... carry it!

The AK family of rifles are meant for hard living and hard work. I have one that was made in Romania. It shoots the 7.62 X 39 ammo and has been a loyal friend for many, many years. I don't see me ever letting go of it. In fact, I've been thinking about adding another AK to the arsenal but this next one will probably have a folding stock on it. I noticed that one of the AKs in the first couple of photos has a folding stock on it. So my questions are:

                              1. Do you get a tight lock when your folding stock is locked into place?

                              2. Do you get a good sight picture using your folding stock when it is locked into place?

                              3. Is there any warnings or something that you might want to warn me about involving folding stock AK rifles?

These questions would be directed to KH Kilroy and anybody else who has owned or used AK rifles with folding stocks.
