I just recently aquired a NHM91 and am not crazy about the stock .. Has anyone had any experience on this variant with a brand or certain type of synthetic stock that will fit without alot of gunsmithing ?
When war comes, My advice is draw the sword and discard the scabbard

I personaly don't have any experience with the NHM91, but while looking for SKS suppliers I ran across this web site , They seem to be your one stop shopping for AK's. www.k-var.com They may have what your looking for. Good luck!

Congrats on the NHM91. Unfortunately you will have to overcome two minor hurtles with this firearm:

First: The NHM 91 or Norinco AKS-47s for that matter are demensionally quite different from their European and Russian AKS variants. Barrel diameters, trunion dimensions and reciever dimensions differ from it's counterparts. This may require some fitting of the replacement stock so as not to split the receiver at the bends. This is also oftened required with alot of aftermarket stocks in any case.

Second: If the NHM 91 came with a thumbhole stock and you intend to replace the stock to a pistol grip configuration, you must stay in compliance with Section 922R of the BATFE code. This site may help:

      Good luck.

There is/was a Dragonov style synthetic stock for the NHM 91. I believe it was legal and required the usual fitting and fudging with it but no gunsmith. It looked better than the thumbhole and with the longer barrel almost did look like a Dragonov. That's a great rifle by the way. I'll look around some and see if I can find a retailer and if I do I'll let you know.

Really hate :cool:that for you. I've lost afew weapons over the years as well. We should be more careful when fishing. Was a very nice rifle "sorry for your loss"

The NHM-91 (AKA MAK-91) has some definite advantages. The receiver's sheet metal is 1.5 mm (.059") thick as compared to AK's 1 mm (.039"). A stiffer receiver is more accurate, ask any benchrest shooter.
Due to its longer heavier weight barrel, it has a longer sight radius and a better trigger. As a result, some have seen 2 to 3 MOA at 100 yards using crap ammo.
So what is not to like?
