It looks like you made a good trade to me. I've owned a couple of 25-06's and loved them. Very flat shooting round and it has good punch. It should effectively handle any 2 or 4 legged critters in North America quite well. Now you just buy up some ammo for it or at least some good clean brass and reloading components. I have an M77 in .308 and its a tack driver. I've killed many deer with that gun....

Well...I dove in....I think I got the better of the deal, if you knew what my trailer looked like...but, I'm happy - he's happy....good deal...

It has a High Country 16x scope mounted on it which seems fairly good...I'll break it down tonight, and clean it up.....probably take it to the property and see how she does at distance....

Well...had to do it, so I went to the property w/Shawn as spotter and sighted in the new toy.....

We started out at 200 yds. to get the scope zeroed in...it was off a bit, but was close enough to get it zeroed pretty well in the first 5 shots....



If you look to the right of the target, on the trunk, you will notice the two channels carved out of the tree from the first two of my zeroing shots.

After punching a few loads out at 200 yds., we decided to see how flat the thing shot and scooted out to 1000 ft....as you can see, this thing is as flat as you like it. My first shot at distance barked the right side of the tree again, 'cause I really wasn't in a comfortable position when I squeezed off...after setting up a little better, I experienced an awesome group, and it was like this all morning.



We were firing Remington Express Core-Lokt 100 gr. rounds.

Kick was surprisingly light, and though the rifle is a bit heavier than it looks, it was relatively comfortable to shoot, and target acquisition was easy and efficient. I had a plug in my one good ear, and muffs on, and this thing was still a boomer.

Over all, I'd say that I have a new favorite for when we go to the range. It's a very good fit for me, and I found myself feeling very confident with the weapon. Ammunition is a little on the pricey side ($23.00/20 rds.), but for this particular pole, money well spent. ;)

I'll be camo jobbing this little gem soon, as well as the air rifle, to match my other rifles, and plan on posting a light pic-umentary on my preferred DIY process for doing so.....

I actually prefer this over my buddy's PSG1....the range is nothing to compare, but I'm no good past 500 yds, anyways...and I've never had to shoot past 300 yds or so for game.

.25-06 Remington

Remington adopted this old wildcat in 1969, but the cartridge has been around as a wildcat since at least 1920. .25-06 factory loads drive a 120 grain spitzer bullet to a MV of 2940 fps with ME of 2382 ft. lbs. Other factory loads are offered with 87, 90, 100, and 117 grain bullets.

With 120 grain factory loads the .25-06 is suitable for all species of North American deer, antelope, sheep, and goats to over 400 yards. Actually, the limiting factor is its trajectory. The "Rifle Trajectory Table" shows that this load has a maximum point blank range (MPBR) +/- 3 inches of 291 yards.

To an extent the .25-06 has always lived in the shadow of the similar .270 Winchester as a long range big game cartridge. On the other hand, using 75-87 grain bullets, the .25-06 is a better varmint cartridge than the .270. It is, however, a loud and hard-kicking varmint cartridge.

As promised, here are the load charts for the 120 grain Hornady hand load. Max FPS is 3100 FPS using a max charge of RL-22. I am not sure I would load it that hot, unless you really like cleaning your rifle.

Well, I overslept church, so I went out this morning to zero in a little better (that left-side pull was buggin' me)....:eek:

20 rounds later, I think it's perfect....1.5-2" groups in and aroud the red at 1000 ft+ ain't bad for a glorified shotgunner.... :)

Couldn't get the camera to work...battery was toast, sorry.:(

Still waiting for someone else to post some range pics....helllooooo out there!

Still shut down 'cause of the ice storm, so I humped the quad over to the property to re-zero my rifle....cuz, as you all know, I painted the damn thing and just knew it was gonna be off again....

Plus, I had to try out the new bipod on it and see if it helped out much....boy, did it.



Actually, the scope must've re-seated very well, 'cause it was only off by about 1.5"R and 1"H....so it only took a couple shots to get it dialed back in....



Love shooting this pig with the bipod...beats the hell outta my elbow or palm, and increases my range considerably....I don't know how far I was, exactly, but I know I was at least 100 paces past our 1000ft mark, so around 4-500 yds?...

Rifle still shoots flat at this range and no need to adjust for wind, as it is a perfectly still morning.

Won't be messing with this rig anymore...I think it's as close to perfect for me as it gets....like the trigger pull...scope's not bad at range....bipod makes it comfy...camo is sick.....'nuff said....

WOW...You did 10 times better painting the Bipod than you did the gun! It is also good to see that you spend time with the "Special Kids", you even let him pose in the picture. You are a heck of a guy!
