  • The Shelves are low on Ammo

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been out shopping for a new camp rifle.

I have noticed the availablity of ammo is very low. I was shopping for .357, 30-06 & 12 gage. Seems to be an ok supply of shotgun shells, but less than 5 boxes of the other stuff.

While in Dick's sporting goods I over heard the clerk saying he is getting partial shipments with less than a case of each type, and that he was only getting 2 shipments a week.

In Walmart this morning, I heard a clerk say he wasn't getting a shipment for another week.

Amazing what you hear when you keep your mouth shut and your ears open.

I have not been in any gun stores recently so maybe there isn't a shortage, but seeing the big box stores low on inventory got me thinking.

I wonder if there is a real shortage or are more people stock piling than we think?

Same case around here. Dick's has been all but out since before Thanksgiving. Even the shotshells are running low now. Local Wally World still has a lot of shotshells in cases, but I keep buying them out of Federal .22lr as they get them in. :) They are too high on the .223, but decent on .45acp and 9mm...still have a little in stock.

I picked up 6 bricks of .22 this morning at Wallyworld. The clerk said he had received 12 bricks yesterday and that was all that was left. Then 15 minutes later he proceeds to tell me that their warehouse has been out of stock for a month. Evidently they are starting to get some loads in since they got some in yesterday.

I feel sorry for the local gun shops since they will be way down on the priority list for resupply. Walmart makes all their suppliers sign an agreement that they get priority status when their stocks run low so they will be grabbing up all shipments till they decide they are adequately resupplied.

I only have about 1500 rounds. I will head to Midland and see what I can find this weekend.

Another thing folks need to know about lack of ammo this time of the year. Stores pay taxes at the end of the year based on exisiting inventory. Most places allow their inventory to dwindle until after the first of the year. The place where I buy my aquarium supplies, and even the local Big Lots is that way. Just give them time. After the first you will see an increase in "stuff".

I was told about the warehouse being out of stock by walmart almost 2 months ago. I paid close attention to thier stock of federal .22 since then. Bought them out eventually, then called 8 stores in my region 2 weeks ago...they were all out of stock except one...and I bought half of their stock.
The local store now has about 10 boxes of federal 550 count.

Know what you mean, no bulk packs at the local wally world either... had only about 6 boxes of Remington Thunderbolts 50 rd boxesm and about that many of CCI...

Same thing with my local reloading supply store, Low on primers and I bought all the .451 bullets they had :( Not pretty... Gonna have to get into casting my own if that crap keeps up:mad:

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.

The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

                  Found a little today

Cleaned out shelves at dicks and wally:

                  Came home with:

100- 12gage (they did have more of this)
                  40 - 30-06 (bought all they had)
300- .22LR (bought all they had)

                  :( - that's not much.

I'll keep tring to I get to a reasonable level. I hope the civil unrest stays calm.

I went to Walmart yesterday to buy some ammo. The shevles were full of blank places where boxes of ammo should be sitting. He had two boxes of federal 330 rnd boxes and I bought them. He had several 50 rnd boxes and I bought two those. The salesman said that the warehouse is out and they are only getting a box or two trickle in at a time. He stated that he had heard the rumors about a high ammo tax but had not gotten anything official.

Went to the local WM today and picked up ten 50rd boxes of Federal 9mm FMJ....there are holes in the shelves, but 9mm and .22, as well as 12g varieties are pretty well stocked....probably helps to be in WMs home state, though.

                        BBC,

I was in the same WalMart tonight. I noticed the same thing. The shelves were empty except for S&W .40. Lucky for me it is what I own so I bought a box. He said the shortage was a nationwide problem. He also told me that he had the same conversation last night with a policeman...I wonder who that was. Keep your eyes open in the area for .22 ammo, and I'll do the same. Maybe we can help each other out.

Yep, that would have been me:). I have some 40 that I will trade you for some .22, .223, ,45 acp or long colt, or 12 guage ammo if you are interested. I've got maybe 150 or 200 rnds of .40. I also have some 9mm I don't need.

Went to 4 WMs today looking for .22 and 9mm. I got 2 boxes of 9mm at one location and the others had none and no .22 bricks.Went to Dicks and they had all you could want at 50% higher prices that WM. Ended up buying 2 bricks of .22 at almost $17 a piece and 4 boxes of 9mm at $16 a piece.:(
