  • Switching handgun ammo?

Im thinking about getting rid of my 45 and switching to 40. Its easier to find and is cheaper. I just do not like 9mm. What do you guys think?
Honey its just the cats, Put that @#$%ing thing away!

      I like Curdog's answer:D

.40 is an awesome round, but I LOVE a .45 and would never want to be without one. I think the answer lies in personal preference. It's a good compromise between 9mm and .45, but it comes down to what is more comfortable for the shooter, and the shooters wallet.

If it makes sense to you, that's all that matters.

The .40 S&W will have more recoil than a .45 ACP. If you reload your practice ammo it will be much cheaper. The SAMMI max psi for a .40 S&W is 35,000 psi. The sammi max psi for a .45 ACP is 21,000. The .40 S&W will wear out a gun faster that a .45 ACP.

Besides the comments already posted, most 40 cal firearms allow you to shoot the .357 Sig cartridge by simply swapping out the barrel and using the same 40 cal magazines.

9MM for me. Doesn't have the knock down power of the 45, but 15 rounds headed down range is a deterrant.

Im too big of a fan of the .45 to give an opinion. I carry a .40 for work, but off duty its .45...The early 80's was 1911's for all 60 gunners and then they went to the 9MM and yuck!! I LOVE THE 1911'S..
