  • .256 Winchester

Anyone have any experience with this one?

Obsolete (EXPENSIVE) varmit cartridge. Derived from a reworked .357 magnum if not mistaken. Poor choice given cartridge availability for survival/prepardness applications. Better/common alternatives available.

It is a necked down 357, it was popular in the 60's and went obsolete in the 90's. Wouldn't be my choice of caliber.

So has anyone actually used this caliber? I have inherited a light single shot chambered for the round. I am wondering what bullet choices would be good for groundhogs and the occassional fox.

My father or my uncle had one, I believe my brother has it now. I will see what he is using and let you know.

Ithink Marlin made an odd little lever action chambered for .256 and .30 carbine...
