  • Bore Snake

I recently bought a product for cleaning one of my guns called a bore snake. It's from hoppe's 9, and it worked extremely well and surprised me with how clean my bore was after I used it. It was really easy too. just thought some of you might like it. Click image for larger version

Yeah I really like bore snakes for a fast/simple clean. I've been adding them to the buttstocks of my rifles and shotguns so they are always with the gun.

that is a great idea I didn't even think of that. I'll get to setting that up really soon.

I like em, saves on weight. Remember that you need to be able to clean your chamber too.

          Otis Tactical Cleaning System

I like the portability/versatility of the Otis Cleaning Kit myself. Like the advertisement states. It will clean from .17 cal through 12 Guage. Have a couple of these and I plan to add cut down M-16 cleaning brushes to them.

Both the Hoppe's Boresnake and to a certain extent the Otis Cleaning Kit are Field Expedient methods to cleaning a firearm. Boresnakes will leave residues that normal cleaning with bore brushes and patches don't. They also don't address cleaning the rest of the firearm. With the addition of a cutdown M-16 cleaning brush thats why I went with the OTIS system instead.

Obviously nothing replaces a bench breakdown, cleaning, inspection and reassembly. Additionally I quit using Gun Scrubber sometime ago. At over five bucks a can, no thanks. I use inexpensive Wally World spray carb cleaner ONLY ON THE METAL PARTS. For those people that apply a cheap camo spray job (Example Krylon) to their firearms and want to remove it from the METAL PARTS, this stuff works great as well.

I've been using bore snakes for a few years now....they do a very good job for a field quick cleaning....I have a full compliment of sizes in my cleaning kit....pistols and rifles...many of them will work for multiple calibers.....30 cal will do 30-30, 308, 30-06...etc

worth the money...just realize that a thorough cleaning is still required after a lengthy range session....tooth brushes and the like....

I think they are a good piece of kit especially when it comes to my Winchester Model 100. I can lock the bolt to the rear and clean the barrel in the correct direction. The same thing goes for my wife's S&W 317 .22lr revolver. I hate to run a cleaning rod down the bore from the muzzle of anything. They are also much more convenient to carry in the field than a cleaning rod.

We also use bore snakes. We have so many different cleaning kits and such, but we do like the bore snakes!

I like them for hunting camp and the such and anything expedient how ever I also believe nothing will fully replace the bench take down and clean that most people dread
