I want to put a scope on my SKS and have noticed a few options. The first one is a bolt on mount on the bolt cover but I heard mixed reviews on them. The other is a rail mounted on the front with a long eye relief scope. Just looking for opinions and hope that someone has used both and can give me some info.

I would install a rail system that provides the flexibilty to mount not only a scope, but other devices that you may aquire/need later on; most are relatively inexpensive and one example is provided in the link below.

Good luck.

that rail system worked fine with my Tapco stock as long as I used the standard upper handguard and not the tapco part with integral rail. It would prob work on an ATI just fine since you still have the same profile as the standard wooden handguard.
But if you don't need Tri-rails you could also try:
http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CE0Q8wIwAw# easy drop in including replacement gas tube
http://www.amazon.com/Tapco-SKS-Hand.../dp/B002ZVGZVA uses your current gas tube
http://www.opticsplanet.net/mako-gro...ail-black.html
If I hadn't already spent the money on the UTG tri-rails I would just get the Mako Gas tube. At least those rails are metal. The plastic tapco rails don't really inspire confidence :(
