What are the top 3 guns you would choose and why. What model would you choose , caliber , action, so on so forth. one handgun, one rifle and one shotgun. mine one be mossberg 500 12ga. pump. with a 20' barrell, a remington 700 bolt action .308 cal. woth a heavy barrel for acc. and last but not least would be a smith and wesson M&P .45. these are my choices for hunting and for family protection. I would use the mossberg for small game the rifle for large game and the pistol for CQC/ family protection.

and add the Remington 700 in 30-06 for the big game weapon.

I think this needs to be top 4. Pistol, shotgun, hunting rifle, military type rifle. Just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

        Mossy 500 18" barrel

        Savage 111 .300 win. mag
Firepower, Accuracy, Firepower, Excessive range, oh yeah and Firepower

        Ruger Security Six .357/.38
for ease of maint., dual cal., reliability, firepower

I am going to add my AR-57 for security also., gotta love the 50 rd mags.

This is just the stuff we already have right. If not then do a $5000 trigger job on all three. and add all custom ammo and gold plate all 3 too.

            Easy breazy.

            #1 My CZ 452 Lux 22LR
#2 My bolt action 12 Gauge shotty (it's my grandpa's shotgun and he got it with a furniture set I believe). Sentimental value aside, I'd replace this with a Saiga or a Mosberg 590 A1.
            #3 My Remingtion 700 ADL 30-06

            In that order :)

The 22LR is a no brainer. Most versatile and you can tote lots and lots of ammo for it with minimal space and weight requirements. 22 LR is serviceable for small deer if you are handy enough with it. Also plentiful in supply, the 22LR should be easy to find even if the world goes to hell in a hand basket.

Any 12 gauge shotty should come next in my opinion. Devastating weapon out to 65 meters. You don't even have to aim when at close quarters, just point and shoot.

The third rifle can be anything but if I have the luxury of a third rifle, I want a 30 cal of some sort. Folks can espouse the virtues of the 556 all day long and I don't care; I want a cartridge with the authority to put dicks in the dirt, one shot one kill.

My $0.02 for what it's worth :) Guns are like everything else, everyone has their own opinion about what is best.

              Here's my 3 "can't be without" guns

#1. Ruger 10/22 w/ 4x scope. Hunting small game and when a quieter gun is needed.
#2. Rem 870 12ga w/ 28" standard barrel, rifled slug barrel, and 18" defense barrel
#3. Beretta 92. For when I'm dumb enough to leave everything else at home.

                  1. Saiga 12g
Why - Most versatile tool in the shed due to different loads,(Though more finicky than my Mossberg) High capacity mags, Surprisingly accurate out to 100 yards with slugs, makes me giggle when I shoot it.
                  2. AR-15 5.56 1/7
Why - Light weight, accurate, easy to find parts and ammunition, ammunition commonality within my group... And before you ask, No, I don't have a bunch of stuff hanging all over mine.
                  3. Springfield 1911A1
Why - 45ACP is a reliable man stopper, very accurate, tritium sights.... plus it's a 1911. Nuff said!
The 12ga.... It's not just for rabbits anymore.

AR15 - Multiple uppers and caliber choices, 22LR adapter, just the most versatile weapon I have.
Can shoot 5.45x39R, 5.56, FN 5.7, 22LR right now, but there are plenty of other calibers availble as well

Glock 19, because I shoot it really well and its dead solid reliable.

                    The third choice is hardest
I suppose I would pick my M1 Garand, but my Serbu 50BMG is a close runner up. If I had a Barret 50BMG semiauto, I would choose that, but among the
guns I actually own, the M1 gets the nod.
My weapon can kill, it isn't limited to mere assault

The three I chose, and currently own, are as follows. The reasons for choosing them are multifold, my main two are, 1. Ease of finding ammo, even if things fall apart. The ease will be relative when compared to the rarer calibers. 2. The guns are common in the US. This will allow you to find parts for your weapon if it breaks. This is especially true for the 10/22 and the 870.

M1 Garand because both calibers are common in the US and easy to get. In the south go into a home in the country and there lis likely to be 308 or 30-06 ammo. Both caliber are good. If I didnt have a M1 already I would get a 223/556 semi auto rifle.

Ruger 10/22. Again easy ammo. But also grat solid gun, epsecially with a little 4x scope on it along with a Butler Creek 25rd mag.

Remington 870 w/ defense and rifled barrels and the standard one. Once again ammo is easy to get and weapon is really common in the US. If it breaks you can prolly get the parts from another broken one near you.

I could choose 3 long guns but not just 3 guns.

                        1. Ruger 10/22 16" threaded heavy barrel, overmolded stock, trigger job and plenty of 10 round factory mags. Accurate, reliable, quiet with attachment. Light ammo and lots of it.
                        2. Moss 500 smooth barrel with slug choke but I have both barrel types, but extra barrels take up space and weight of ammo.
                        3. Need a pistol/carbine. 9mm glock 34/17 - holds 3x as 45, less recoil, easier follow up, lighter ammo but still hurts if you get hit. Ammo is everywhere also.
                        4. High(er) power rifle. 6.5x55 swede does great, is accurate, powerful. Ammo is available but not as common. 270 again is light and accurate but great at distance and knock down power. Again ammo hard to find. For that reason alone if limited an ak-47 would be a reasonable choice. Replenishable ammo as your enemy will have one. I would prefer a 30 cal but weight and availability is a major determination.

My top three would have to be:

A Remington model 870 wingmaster or express for reliablity and ease of maintianence. with a few basic hand tools I can keep one running forever.

A Nighthawk 1911 for the say reasons.

And I know I am going to catch all kinds of hell for this but, living in Missouri with the terrain we have here I am going to say either an Ak-47 with a few mods (butt stock, forend, light, and optic.) Or a M21 Ebr with a 18" barrel.
