Does your 870 have a bead, rifle or ghost ring sights and why did you choose that set of sights. I have never used rifle sights on a shotgun but that would be my choice due to my familiarity with a standard rifle. What's your opinion?
Nice choices, But, the S&W is kinda pricey I think, especially for .22 but if you ran out of ammo you could strap that sucker to a stick and have a heck of a club, man that thing weighs almost 4 pounds empty !
NOTE:
Some newer Rem 870s have incorporated dimples on the end of the mag tube to prevent the addition of a mag extension (870 HD). Once you remove the barrel on the 870 you can see if it has these dimples. These dimples can be removed (drill/dremel). Watch out for state laws where applicable.
CAUTION:
Please make sure that mag extention does NOT exceed length barrel length.

Bead. I've been using bead for years and have had no problems. Mostly on the 20 GA used to hunt dove, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, etc.
Since the 12 GA is a defense rather than hunting weapon, rifle sights were not required.

I removed the dimples and with the extension it is shorter that the barrel length (at 18.5 inches)
As Zombie Axe would say...
"Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty."

Nice choice, benellis are the cadillac of shotguns. What is the desired application of your choice? As far as shotguns I picked up a 870 and a few 'off-brand' ones. Wife won't let me buy a benelli yet...lol. I but a 8 shot extension on mine as well. Can't remember what the price was. I also put a recoil-reducing blackhawk telescoping stock and foregrip. I was surprised how much recoil it actually killed keeping me on target for any follow up shots in half the time. I think that stock kit was 125 bucks or so but worth it. Personally I would like to throw on some ghost ring sights down the road for more acurate shots for 'slugs'.

I guess if I'd have to pick one gun for a SHTF gun, I'd have to go with the dpms 308 with the current horus 3x12 scope, and xd 45. I know its heavy but thats what I'd choose if I had to choose one gun for everything. Maybe I read the Boston Gun Bible too much.....lol
