H&R Tamer .410 shotgun

This is a single shot takedown 410 shotgun. This could make a good little hunting survival gun. I saw one at cabelas for $150. Anybody have any real experience with this little cutie?

Everyones opinion/requirements of a hunting/survival rifle obviously will differ. I think in an all hell breaks loose PAW/SHTF or survival /hunting senario this firearm may short change you, compared to other alternatives. I find it deficient from the standpoint of capacity, sustained rate of fire, ballistic coefficents, limited range, defensive capability and stand-off distance. From the standpoint of getting small game it may serve you adequately, however I like to be able to have the ability for a quick follow-up shot if needed. My firearms must perform/have an additional capabilities. This firearm will be a limited/medicore performer. In this instance affinity for this firearm may be misplaced.

I like it. And if your plan is to use it for a little survival hunting gun, it would be a decent choice. I am more of a fan of the little .22's, but for 150 bucks, the .410 is decent. If I am reading your post correctly it would be used as a second or third tier gun? If so, I like it.

No experience with that particular shot gun but I have several thoughts on it ,and you can take my thoughts with a grain of salt because they are only my opinion and you know what they say about opinions ! First I don't like a single shot firearm for anything except maybe an antique wall hanger and most of those have served their purpose in life or they would not be used as a decoration. I can't label a single shot anything a "survival gun" cause if the other guy has an automatic or a weapon capable of more than one shot you most likely ain't surviving. In a hunting situation more times than not you need a follow up shot ,with birds , sometimes more than one. Finally the cost of ammunition around my parts a box of .410 goes for anywhere between $10.99-15.99 and up per box of 25, at the same stores I can buy 500 rounds of .22 for the same $15.99 the .22 can be a very good survival/ hunting rifle, for about $50-$75.00 (maybe less if you shop the pawn shops) more than the .410 you can have a Ruger 10 22 that fires multiple shots (10+1 I think) has a much longer range than the .410 and can take game from squirrels to deer in the right situation,and with a good scope you can put a zombie's lights out from quite a distance with a well placed head shot and the .22 is much quieter than the .410. And the 10 22 comes in weight wise at 5lbs versus 6lbs for the H&R .410 Like I said to begin with this is just my opinion it's your hard earned dollars being spent and you know your situation and needs better than anyone. One thing I notice quite often is most members think we are headed for a situation that will require us to be heavily armed and well trained in combat.
I am thinking this would be a good gun to take camping, hiking or have stashed in the truck.
I am also thinking past the initial chaos and the need to hunt for food after things die down.
One thing I don't like about this gun is it has a full choke so you cannot shoot slugs. The bullet kind not the slimey kind.
I don't think I will buy one it just caught my eye. I am attracted to anything compact, lightweight and useful.

The H&R 410 single holds a special place in my heart as it was my very first shotgun. Mine wasn't the cool nic finish with polymer stock of course, but it was, in my mind an awesome little gun.

I can see the 410's value as a small game getter and have even played around with the idea of getting one of these cheap little Leinad 11" derringers for a while, just as a pack gun.


Unfortunately, the bottom line is that the 410 is nothing more than a squirrel/snake gun. As Bayou, and rsanders have pointed out... The draw backs are many... The benefits are few. That being said, since I currently have other options for more serious scenarios... I will still probably pick one of these up... Even if it turns out to be nothing more than a conversation piece.

I think that is called a commanche. 410/45 colt. I am thinking about getting one also. Could be fun.

They sell for $120.00 on gunbroker all day everyday. I think it would be a cool little item to keep stowed with the cars tire iron, or tool bag. With a little grinding on the barrel, it could make a neat bottle opener too. LOL:D:D:D

i want one the 410 is great little weapon will get out there but as a extra pack weapon absolutely we aint killing zombies yes some wish we were but logicall thinking it aint bad i would look for a 22 410 over and under they are awsome

Just to be clear.

Pic#1 = Leinad Derringer .410/45LC (Double or Single Barrel)
Pic#2 = Super Commanche .410/45LC Single Shot

Either way, it's a cool idea and for $150-200 I wouldn't mind having a Commanche. Here's my thought, it would be a good choice to strap on while doing things like gathering firewood. Would I take it out as my primary hunting gun, heck no. But I would use it to shoot small game when the opportunity presented itself. Sure a 22 pistol can take small game, but I could pop in a 45LC and drop a deer too. Plus it would be a great conversation peice at the range. Now I want one

P.S. I read it shoots 1.5-2" at 50yds with 45LC. Dunno, just what I read.
