We all need a place to store or guns for now. I split my time between Idaho & California, with Idaho as the primary place I keep my toys. But, I need to keep some weapons in CA and I was tired of storing them in the closet in bags, but did not want to spend a fortune on a gun safe, that I will not need in a year.

They had these at Costco for $399 on sale. I think regular price is $499. A LOT better than those stack-on cabinets and not that much more expensive. If you are on a budget, this is a nice safe. The door storage is from Sportsmans Guide for $50 or so.

It is light enough for just two people to get in and out of the truck and across the garage. Two people could probably get it up a flight or two of stairs pretty easy. The box said it was almost 500 lbs, but I think it is closer to 400 after moving it around a lot. It is supposed to be fireproof, but I personally don't see any safe as fireproof. I have seen a Knox that was opened after a fire and everything in it was destroyed, mostly melted. You can easily store 6 long guns if you don't install the shelves. If you don't care about the guns rubbing or if you store them in socks, you can get 9 or 10 in no problem.

If the battery on the lock goes, it can be changed very quickly, but you should not have your defensive gun in the safe anyway.

As a "veteran" of two hurricanes I can tell you, the peace of mind of a gun safe is well worth the price.
