Aaaaaarrrrggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

I woke up this morning confident that I would be able to post pics of my completed 10/22. All I had to do was assemble the trigger guard group slap it in the reciever and I'd be done!
I had painted the Trigger group a nice forest green several days previously it looked like a powder coat it was so smooth, awsome!
I started by sticking in a extended mag release, only problem was it was out of spec and did not engage the mag lock! OK, so next I stuck in the LH extended safety followed by the trigger sear assyembly, only that Assembly would not line-up with the pin hole! An hour latter I had ruined my awesome paint job and using tooth picks as slave pins, jammed the Trigger Assy. in place. Now the hammer would not line-up with it's pin hole and the trigger was still jammed in place. Of course all this time springs are pinging around the room and pins are disappearing into coffee cups. Two hours and several tear downs latter I have the job nearly done but the hammer and sear are jammed! I lost my 'situational awareness' and called it quits.
About then my Hiviz sights arrive and they go on with-out a hitch, very nice.
After a few hours I find a propper slave pin and now belive that the Volquartson LH safety is to blame for all my woes as I've assembled this trigger guard several times in the past, fortunately there's a holiday comming-up

It's ALIVE!!!!!!

After some profound re-thinking of my troubles I decided to try switching the Trigger Return Spring and the Disconnector Spring. I also welded a bit of steel to the extended mag release and fitted it to the gun. BINGO my troubles were resoulved! I still had to do some inleting (gougeing away plastic with a Dremel tool) to allow my over-sized tacticool safety to clear the stock but it is now done!

So far I have the following mods:
Sand curved recoil pad flat and smooth
Clark trigger/sear
Volquartson safety
Ranch steel extended Mag release
Choate pistol grip stock
CTD ARR-0551 verticle pistol grip and alumium picatinny rail
Hi-Viz GG 1001 sights
Recoil Buffer (useless and over priced)
NCStar #SEECR3942R 3-9 tacticcol scope
Weaver scope base

HFT 10-22 reduex!

The tacticool scope was junk outa the box so I instaled a Barska Halo sight, I bought 2 just in case. The T&E was a bit sloppy as was switching between reticles so I'll leave it on one reticle, zereoing in was only a bit awkard, lots of slack in the screw adjusters but I think that's done with now. It did zereo and is shooting nicely now. The halo is a new experience for me and I look foward to playing with it.

Wow re-reading those "old" threads was quite the experience, it's sorta like that old story about the senile old man,,,,sorta like the story about the senile old man,,,sorta like the story,,,,,muffins!
Like I said, somewhere,,the HFT 10/22 is a way to beta test a bunch of mods and training tactics before I slap em on the tactical carbine!
I got tired of messing with Bargin red dots. I had the same problem as with the cheap Tactical CQB scopes, terrible paralax! Move back 20 feet and the scope is 12" off target, same with the red dots. I figgure if the dot can't be trusted over a 20 foot distance change on the range how do I justify using it in a sheepdog situation? OH yeah! I almost forgot, I dumped the NC Star Picatinny rail for a GG&G rail like John Edwards dumped his wife, but for different reasons.
I bought a Bushnell Trophy MP red/green T-dot for $150.00. What a differance! No, it aint a $1600.00 red dot or even a $600.00 dot scope, I do not work for the Govt. I cannot afford a a $20.00 toilet seat let alone an $1600.00 one!
But it works. The dern thing is actually 'gud enough' to trust someone else's life on and I am happy I got it. Now I am using a target trigger/hammer in this Beta rig so YMMV.
OH BTW, I am so past that SP sling! yeah it was fun on the range but once you drop your gun it starts dragging or bouncing around because of the bungy cord. I shortened the sling and instead of bouncing and dragging it just hung between my legs and pointed at my foot or leg. Now there are alot of tacticool operators that wear vests and chest rigs that do not have this problem because thier waist line has expanded by 60+ inches and the muzzel clears thier toes, and since they are "Operators" and I am not they ignore the problems mere mortals have. Nuff said; I'm going back to the 2 point sling. As a side note; I tried out a 'drop holster' strapped to my curvey thigh (yum), currently the "Operators" hate it because they cannot grab a spare mag, or the pistol, while they are running ,and of course this is a terrible thing to happen, because they apparently lost thier "Tactical Carbine" due to the single point sling, that they love, while running! They teach me alot, (cough, cough) these 'professional men' that not only guard me every night but now have thier own, personal 'action figures' to prove it! You know you aint done nuthin untill you have a plastic doll in your image to prove it! (seems vaguely un-christian in intent, false gods and graven images blah, blah!)

I used Krylon Olive Drab as a base coat then Rust-Oleum Army Green and Krylon 'Tan or Sand'? I still need a red/brown and then I'll coat it all with 'clear flat' like Saw did.

Kenno-----Couple of quick questions. I saw your paint job and love it. Thinking about adding some camo for my Tapco SKS Dark Earth stock. Any advice? Would you use these same paints again? Also what's the 'clear flat' coat for? Thanks

P.S. I bought a SP sling thinking it would be great----hate it! It bounces all around, muzzle drags the ground, and gets filled with dirt :(

Use Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to clean your plastic parts Krylon makes 4 flat camo colors and a Clear Matte Finish for a final overspray.
Use Krylon camo as your base coat, it is formulated for plastic. The light green is a Rustoleum Camo color but is available from Krylon as Lite Olive enamel paint also. Enamel paints can be sprayed over the base Krylon coat then coated with the Flat Clear coat to reduce shine.
I have painted 4 stocks with various Krylon colors, it's cheap, it's fun and functional.
