    Neverknow

These firearms are derivatives of the basic Remington model 700 series with heavy barrels and bedded actions to synthetic stocks. 1/2 MOA at 100yds is what I'm getting with my Remington 700 BDL .308 with synthetic stock now. I would love to get my hands on a heavy barrel variant. These firearms are tweaked versions of the original.

This is what I would like to get my hands on even though my 700 BDL performs flawlessly:

For that kind of money, you should look at the Armalite AR-30's. I have one in .300 Win Mag and it is my favorite rifle.

You can build a decent, world-class, bolt-action tack driver for less than 1000 if you're patient and resourceful....

I think $2800:00 is a bit much. Manufactures today are listening more to their customers; they are producing long arms with excellent out-of-the-box accuracy and quality triggers. Another example of this is Savage Arms with their Accu-Trigger and Accu-Stock bedding. These are really nice rifles with sweet triggers. Timney and Shilen make great aftermarket triggers for bolt action rifles. I've got a Shilen trigger on my Rem 700 and am quite satisfied with it. The original trigger it came with was no slouch either. There are also any number of aftermarket stock manufactures to chose from. You really don't need to spend the money on the custom jobs unless you are hunting Dahl Sheep or Big Horn rams.

One thing I'm concerned with is that some of these so called specialty manufactures produce inferior products. Some merely remove the stock barrel of a firearm and install a quality heavy barrel, head space it and call it good. Many don't true-out the receiver and barrel to each others. I've seen this first hand. Additionally some do a piss poor job of bedding the actions. My .308 Rem 700 is not bedded and I can shoot a quarter at 100yds all day. I took my mule deer in Arizona at close to 300yds with it. I don't need to shoot any further than that.

I selected the .308 because it's a common caliber and in a pinch I could utilize NATO 7.62 x 51mm ammo. Additionally this caliber is a whole lot cheaper than say 7mm mag or 300 win mag which shortens the life of even the best scopes. It's a caliber that I would not be afraid of shooting into my twilight years. I can't begin to tell you the number of people who would come into our store wanting to trade in their Ultra-Mags etc on a smaller caliber.

I'll tell you one thing...if you can't afford a pricey rnd, steer clear of the 25-06 platform...quality ammo will run you nearly 2 bucks a bang...it's a deadly accurate friggin' pole, though :D .... 0-1/4" MOA using Hornady 25-06 Rem 100 gr GMX Superformance (45 bucks/20rnd).........
