Depending on the price (620 for 1000 rds) and the firearm's barrel twist rate it can be a good deal. The cartridge has a metal-jacketed, lead alloy core bullet with a steel penetrator. The primer and case are waterproofed. It is identified by a green tip and has a bullet weight of 62 grains. It is also oftened referred to as SS 109. This is the NATO standard round. It is effective against personnel and light materials. The firearm must be barreled for the 5.56 x 45 chambering or the .223 Wylde chambering (Not to be mistaken with the conventional .223 caliber chambering). Twist rate should be 1 and 7 for maximum effectiveness of this round. However it should also perform well in the 1 and 8-9 chamber offerings. Note some of this ammo was sold in country as British surplus that did not make the cut due to slightly than normal operating pressures. I know a person who tried it in a Smith and Wesson MP-15 with less than stellar results in his firearm. I suggested Georgia Arms .223 and it ran like a scolded dog. If it's this British surplus I would be cautious. If not go for it. Seems like a good deal if this ammo is kept in reserve for SHTF purposes.Last edited by Bayou Blaster; 07-22-2009, 11:11 PM.
