Eugene Stoner came up with that concept when he still Co-owned ARES arms,back in the late 70,s or early 80's I believe.If the name sounds familiar he also designed the original AR-15.
Here's 2 link to give some background on the original design for anyone interested.
Even though he never pursued any large scale prodution the Russians liked the concept enough to produce copies.Here's a link to a page about the Russian knock off.

If you have a spare 12,500 dollars you can get the UC foldable Submachine Gun if you live in a full auto state.It's built on a pre-86 receiver so it's still civilian transferable.They only have 65 available and they got the name of the original designer wrong I believe but it looks like a fun piece of kit.Originally posted by TheLastMountainMan View Post
