    It's true Diesel

The murder victim that I referred to earlier was shot in the pelvic area and the buller exited above his knee somewhere. Not to mention the round that shattered his ball sack:eek:. That hurts just to say. Also, my introduction to the Papoose was by pure accident. I had never heard of one until I saw it used at our local gun shop. I'd say it's one of the best $125 bucks I've ever spent.

Yeah that's the funny thing about .22 seems so harmless, and can be, could go right through a body part and cause virutally no damage, could sto and be embedded and cause virtually no damage... or depending on range could enter the body and because of it's lack of ability to penetrate bone or dense material start bouncing. Heard stories of .22 entering shoulders and coming out thighs.. no idea if it's true but you guys get the point.

People say ohhh .22 won't do sh&t, well hold up a .22 bullet to that person, and say ok do you mind if i shoot you with this? :) see what they say.

    Reasons I love .22
    non menacing
    quiet
    super cheap
very light to carry alot of ammo
great for small game hunting at little to no expense andwithout drawing alot of attention to yourself.
    and it's defense

Beebop I have an AR-7 which I love, amazing to have a gun that puts away in it's own water tight stock. But I have heard the papoose is so much more reliable and more of a real firearm.

    Late comer on this post

The last murder that we had in this little town was with a .22 long rifle. The guy was on a porch and was shot 4 times at approximately 50 ft and it killed him DRT. When a .22 hits the body and hits bone it change direction and hits another bone and chages direction again and often still has enough energy to exit the body. It does a great deal of organ damage and causes tremendous internal bleeding. It's a very underated little round. Along with my big guns I have a .22 Ruger Mark III, a North American Arms .22 deringer, a Marlin Papoose take down that I love, and a Ruger 10/22 and I plan on keeping all of them. Like the man said, you can carry a bunch of ammo.

Above are some 25 round magazines for your new 10/22. The steel lips are more expensive but worth it, but I have yet to see the polymer lips fail:cool:

Right now both are out of stock:confused: Probably has something to do with an election or something:rolleyes:

Also if you are EVER considering a folding stock (which IMHO makes it stow compactly in a vehicle) you may want to consider getting it SOON...

I recently (like 4 days ago) purchased my very first firearm. Because of government limitations and my own sense of paranoia, I never bought one before. I have relied on stealth self defense tactics and a bow & arrow because I figure eventually there will be no more bullets and a gun will only be good to hold up your tent flap. Anyway...

It is a Ruger 10/22 carbine 10 shot, with an added 7-power scope. The gun itself ran for $199 new, the scope for $75.

I also picked up a box of 525 rounds for $20. I will be purchasing several more mags for it, seeing as how it's so simple to load.

Yeah, but you have to go to Wal-Mart. Just the thought makes me shudder.

I was either at CTD or Cabellas over in Fort Worth. These guys have it for under $2.00 a 50. http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=ATB22A
But it is mail order and you have to pay the crappy shipping.

Sportsmans guide has Winchester Wildcat for $103 per 2500. Thats about $2.00 a box 50.

And they have Thunderbolt for 180.00 for 5000. Thats $1.80 per 50. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=128858

I think I must have run accross a special in store price.

Any decent 22LR is a great asset in any survival situation! I had a 22LR single shot that originaly cost about $3.50 new, it was a short kid's rifle with a Dockendorf rear sight, (must have been an extra cost item)! That old single shot taught me how to make every shot count, how to stalk to the correct place to shoot from, how to think like a hunter and the prey. I have a fantasy that a world exists where every child, certainly every boy, would be raised in a world where there was enough open land where they could learn the basic skills of life, the S.S. 22LR being a big part of that!

I have a Marlin model 60 my grandfather gave me (first rifle actually). It is prolly my favorite to shoot and plink around with. 22LR may not be the best defense round but it like the shotgun has a place in any SHTF situation.
