not true at ALL. Only brain hits are going to stop charges reliably. 100 lb deer sometimes run off with 12 ga slugs thru their chests. So much larger bears are not going to be stopped by chest hits with MUCH less power. Besides, you're 10,000 x (literally) more likely to be attacked by dogs or men than bears, even in "bear country".

Actually you’re both wrong - there was a study done on pistol defense against bear attacks. Surprisingly pistols were far more effective than anyone thought. As in 90 percent. The most used was a 9mm, but even a .22 was successful. Not in killing the bear, but making it leave. Though they reported a number of kills in the study as well. I forget who did the study, but I’ll try and find it when I’m on my computer. I’m on my iPad at an undisclosed location right now. Lol.

What load are you using?

You'd be better off with a revolver and heavier bullets than what you will find in a 10mm.
I'd want a 44 Mag as a minimum, and a 454 Casull would be more useful.

You may not know that I have killed and helped kill hundreds of bears. I don't know for super accurately, but in round numbers about 300'ish. I generally use a .375 H&H or .458 Winchester Magnum, when guiding Grizzly and Alaska Coastal Brown Bear hunters, for 40 years.

A 30-30 wouldn't be as convenient to carry and is still not that powerful when you're talking about defending against Brown Bears.

I have seen a lot of videos that swear by 10mm for bear, but I agree with Snyper708 on this one. I would opt for a revolver, and something heavier for Grizzlies; at least a .44 magnum. Glad you are enjoying a new firearm. A new gun always makes me feel like a kid on Christmas.

I only have about a 100 rounds fired, But I am liking this firearm. I have been spending a lot of time in the deepish wilderness, making adjustments to some of my cache sites, and It is often that I simply can't carry a long gun. So I have felt "kind'a" OK with this 10mm with bear encounters.

Haha! It was bound to happen someday. After decades of caching stuff around, eventually, we can forget what we have. After that long of a time, even some of the lists can go awol.

Not a bad find.. All I found when I cleaned out my attic was some shot gun shells. We had the shotgun but how that ammo got in the attic was beyond me. I have been looking to buy the judge. My neighbor has one and let me try it out. Nice gun. Been thinking about buying one, but air conditioner comes first. It is on it;s last leg.
