Best shot gun I own. I love the 410, and prefer it over the 12 or 20 guage.

Well to pick-up this thread from that Texas Boy who is prone, like all Texans, to go all overboard on any subject....The 410 has it's place in the world because it has earned a following. EARNED A FOLLOWING! In a capitalistic world a product proves itself or dies a terrible gruesome death at the hands of Hook And Bullet Writers!
The 410 is the 22LR of shotgun rounds, if only it was priced like 22LR ammo it would be the king of shotgun ammo for small game!
The 410 is what it is, a small shotgun round good for potting rabbits in the garden, squirrels, 'wild chickens' and has the self-deffense ballistics of a 38 SPL from a 4" barrel.
BTW it is also an excelent long range varmint round. Hornyday is rumored to release a V-Max 410 round this spring, ballistics are said to surpass the 25-20. Do not quote me on that!
PS
We all need to have some fun now and then, and poking fun at the .410 guage shotgun, the NERD of shotguns, might seem like fun to you and me, but to Texans, and others that are easily scared in a emotional way, it can be devistating to thier scense of self worth to know that the 410 is basicaly useless, and even worse, lower thier horndog factor, which would mean fewer NASCAR fans in years to come. That my friends, is a world I do not want to live in!
PPS if you have a 410 and it aint regesteried then keep it that way.Last edited by kenno; 02-05-2009, 03:11 AM.The road to serfdom is paved with free electric golf carts.

Kenno,
Don't be pokin fun at Rusty and his affection for 410's. We all had one when we were 10 yrs old(My first shotgun was a JC Higgins 410 bolt action with a full choke got it when I was 8 and still have it;)). Its not Rusty's fault he never grew up! In all seriousness, the 410 is an excellent youth / lady shotgun and with the right rounds can be potent enough to get the job done. If only the rounds weren't "HIGHER THEN GIRAFFE SNATCH" it would be even better! Just my .02cents...Wolverines!!!:D

I could never understand why the 410 was so expensive, you can shoot 12's and 20's cheaper. Most will pattern very tight, and I have one I bought my daughter that I love, a little single shot H&R. I cammo'd it and I'm planning on putting sling swivels on next. BTW, I've got one of those bolt action 410's with the screw on full choke, it's pulled a many a squirrel out of the highest of trees! I must admit they are fun.

Everybody, listen to this man. He speaks the truth. The .410 is the best shotgun for squirrel hunting.
Mine? A Stevens single shot, full choke. I learned as a boy how to shoot doves in the soybean fields of SC with this shotgun. Hunting doves with a .410? Yep! You either learn how to shoot right that way or you don't.If it looks ignernt, but it works, then it ain't ignernt.

I'm looking to buy a 410 myself. when I was 12, I shot a deer with a rifled slug at about 60 -65 yrds, dropped in its tracks. missouri started a youth hunt a few years back, and requires them to use a 410 slug. My daughter wants to start hunting with me, so I'm looking for a 410 pump with rifled barrel, (cheap).G.I.H.S.O. Going In Hot, Safety Off.

Passed up a sweet 410 Snake Charmer last weekend at the gun show for $100 and am still kicking myself over it....one of my favorite pack rifles ever....still have my granddad's old 'charmer, and I love it...."I Have Sworn Upon the Altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." -Thomas Jefferson
