  • SKS Help to buy or not to buy

I found a SKS a a local flea market last thursday for 350 bucks it has a black plastic stock and I think a 50 round banna clip and the original little small clip.

I know nothing about rifles and even less about a big bad gun like this one, it sure does look mean. Should I go back and buy it? is this a good deal? or just fair price? is this a good gun for a gun dummy like me?

All I have ever had was a shot gun. I bought a glock 40 cal from a police officer buddy of mine it was his personal side arm and I bought a 22lr remmington 155 savage with a killer scope.

I am looking for any thoughts suggestions ideas? would I be better off with a 30-30 or 30-06? I am looking for a long range rifle for protecting the farm in a SHTF senero and mabe be able to kill a deer if need be.

    Thanks again for any help

These days, its an average price. If you like it, buy it. You cant go wrong with a SKS.

SKS caliber is 7.62 x 39mm Russian. Ballistically comparable to a 30-30. Depending on condition it should provide you with dependable service. Very robust firearm. Accuracy dending on barrel length is good at 100yds and acceptable to 150yds. Some SKS have surprised me with there accuracy. I would get rid of that 50 round magazine as I seriously doubt it will give you any kind of acceptable reliabilty (Has to be 100 percent for me).

Check out these websites specific to the SKS for help: http://surplusrifle.com/

Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Good luck.
